I don't think there is any chance we get Fields, as much as we need him. The early playing time situation at FSU and Auburn are better. FSU's QB just went down for the year and their backup isn't going to cut it. Auburn's situation is better for Field's in terms of playing time as well. Our best shot was Eason showing significant improvement and moving onto the NFL. Now I question whether Eason will ever be a good college QB, never mind the NFL. You could always see it with Stafford, even when he struggled. I don't see it with Eason. It is way too early for any judgement on Fromm. If he does very well, and I hope he does, that will end our quest for Fields.
Then again, I'm a glass half-empty kind of guy when it comes to UGA football. Of course, someone else may have a good argument as to why we might get Fields.

Has Fields not stated in the past that he wants to redshirt?

My initial reaction is that it could hurt us but it's really too early to tell. If Eason does end up being out 6 weeks or more then it's not crazy to imagine Fromm playing well enough to lock down the spot or at least make it a legitimate controversy. Fromm and Fields only having one year of separation isn't great but if that previous scenario played out and Eason were to transfer it'd be hard to pass up walking into a situation where he's the only one other scholarship QB. I'm not as familiar with FSU's backup situation but I'm certain they have more scholly QBs than we do.
So basically I have no idea.

It will either hurt both teams or help both teams.

1. Fields said he wants to red shirt and learn the offense.
2. Eason couldn't go pro no matter how well he did this year. He's a sophomore.
3. FSU's backup will have a full year of experience in the offense. Fields does not want to compete with that the same way he didn't want to compete with Fromm if he had a full year head start.
I do agree the events of this weekend favor Auburn, though.

On a side note. If you want a good laugh, got to the AU recruiting thread. They think they backed off of Rochester because he was "sawft". Those guys never get beat for a recruit.

Florida State has signed a 4* QB the last two recruiting cycles and also a 3* in each of the last two cycles. Francois was signed 3 years ago, apparently. However, if he is out the rest of this year, he won't be going pro next year, I wouldn't think.

Yeah. Presumably for a year, behind Eason. After Eason's junior year, he would figure he could beat Fromm out for the starting job.

I think everyone knows this. BUT...Eason would only have a year left by the time Fields got here and then he'd get to duke it out with Fromm for the starting job. I'm sure he was cool with his odds in that scenario. If Eason doesn't get his job back, and Fromm gets entrenched as the new starter, that suddenly becomes two years for him waiting to play. Would you do that?

So you think he'd want to compete with Fromm having a year in the starting role and two full years of eligibility left?
The honest truth is that there is no way this works out well for us. We needed Eason to look good, Fields to redshirt for a year and then compete with Fromm for the starting job in 2019. If Fromm balls out (and I think we all hope he does), he'll be the guy through at least 2019 and Fields would have a hell of an uphill battle to get any significant playing time before 2020.

It's the same scenario at FSU. James Blackman is a true Freshman, also.
This situation only favors Auburn. FSU and UGA are in the same boat.

That may well be true. I'm just saying it definitely does not favor us and I do think it will have an impact on his decision. I don't know much about the FSU backup, but there's a decent chance he's not very good, in which case Fields could compete immediately when he gets to campus OR have a one-year wait.

There is also a chance he is good and would have to wait two at FSU.... There is also a chance Fromm doesn't do well and Eason comes back to start and we are where we started.
I dont see the point you are trying to make as no one said it favors us. We can speculate all day but the facts are the situations are the same at FSU and UGA.

True, but it's hard to really root for that series of events.

My point is in answer to the original question (and your answer to it) of how the injury to Eason will affect Fields' decision. You didn't seem to think it would change much. I simply disagree. And yes, things would be the same for both FSU and UGA assuming that FSU's 2nd string QB is good and Fromm is also good; or vice versa where both are bad. Things could change if one is the real deal and the other isn't. Time will tell.

FYI, in case it wasn't seen by others on the recruiting board, Fields is taking a trip to LSU. Haven't heard anything else about it thus far, but LSU fans seem to think their recruiting staff has really been on him pretty hard.

Given that he originally said he'd take all of his OVs, this doesn't surprise me.
