Just outside of 100 at 107 (I believe) is Toneil Carter (RB). I really, really, really like this guy.

Nice video.

Rusty CB'd AJ Terrell to the good guys today. LINK

This would be one hell of an incoming DB class:

LeCounte III (S)
William Poole III (CB)
Jacoby Stevens (S) ?
AJ Terrell (CB)
Jamyest Williams (nickel) ?

Lot of flexibility with these guys as well, as true to Smart's word, he's recruiting guys that can play man coverage well. This is also not accounting for possibly getting Gibbs. Another interesting possibility is Tray Bishop (ATH) who we are in the mix for, but depending on what happens with the WR class (ie. maybe Nico Collins wants to commit along with a Mark Webb/Swift package deal), could find a home on the defensive side of the ball, as it's unlikely that he'd be able to see the field as a QB for us (but could fill that role for scout team).

these guys plus the last 2 classes of mecole, mcgraw, roundtree, and briscoe....our secondary should be lights out the next few years.

Yeah. Love his footage. He feels a little more Sony Michel/Keith Marshall (out of HS) than a Chubb/Gurley like back. The "lightning" of our Thunder/Lightning duo's we've been running of late. That's not a knock, since obviously Sony has performed well, particularly last year. Gotta love his burst (lot of busted plays in the highlights but to his credit, he took advantage), and his wiggle (seems very difficult to square up and tackle). Also a couple of nice clips early where he had great vision in setting up blocks (also one where he got tripped up by an OLman, but we'll forgive that one, ).

I think someone may have already said this, but it seems like the staff is solid on taking minimum of 2 RBs this year, so that's why the full court press on Swift and Carter. Akers is tough to nail down where he's going to go, so go after the 2 near-sure things, and if you can land a 3rd back, so be it. There should be space in the class and it's not like we couldn't find a way to use all 3.

Carter seems to have great vision, speed, balance....and what I like a lot about him is he isn't afraid of contact. He'll plow through the defensive player if he has no choice. I was actually thinking he reminded me of Chubb in that he is difficult to bring down and keeps churning his feet when contact is made.

You might be right though, and he might be closer to Marshall/Michel. And, as you pointed out, that is definitely NOT a bad thing. Scary what Marshall might have done had he avoided injury.

Kinda random, but does anyone else read his name as toenail in their head first? I do it every time, and at this point it seems like I wouldn't anymore.

Yeah. Exactly my thoughts. Assuming Mel Tucker sticks around, you've gotta like our chances with what he can do with those guys. He got crazy production out of Fitzpatrick (5*) in year 1 and Ronnie Harrison (4*) looked good when playing as well. Not to mention the improvement in Eddie Jackson (3*) (transitioned to S in 2015).

The lone concern there for me is the DL has got to get deep and in a hurry. Just as much as a good OL can make avg QB/WR look better, the same can be said for the defensive front. I'm not too worried about us at LB, but I'm not seeing a ton of big name DL recruits in the works this year. Could just be due to lack of available local talent, but if priority one is improve along the LOS, would love to see 2 seasons in a row where we pull some serious talent along both of them (16/17 for DL, 17/18 for OL since we kinda whiffed in 16 there).

The 2016 group of Rochester, Marshall, Carter, Clark, and Manac was actually a pretty nice haul along the DL (with some of those likely moving to OLB in our scheme). Would love to see another strong pull in 17 to accompany them and build the foundation for a deep defensive front.

out of curiosity I went to the 247 class calculator and plugged in the following guys. Obviously we aren't getting all them (probably not anyways) so this is pie in the sky, but just for fun. This also takes into account everyone currently committed.

jacoby
beal
swift
thomas
jaymest
mcbride
herring
terrell
solomon

That would put us at a 300.72. Over the last 5 recruiting classes, that score would put us finishing:

2016: 2nd
2015: 3rd
2014: 2nd
2013: 3rd
2012: 2nd

Not bad. Despite all those guys being pretty highly ranked, I'd say we have more than a punchers chance for all of them.

Not bad at all. Would put us at a class of 20. We'll likely have decent room for more. With zero early departures, we'll have about 18 slots opening up, so realistically closer to at least 25-27 I would imagine between Draft, transfers, and any additional "processing". (In my spreadsheet simulator, I see us maxing out at 33, but that would not be a good thing since I don't think we have enough room to count back EEs to 2016 to hit that number.)

Should probably account for Webb in that calculation as well, since if we land Swift, we're probably also getting him. Doesn't move it a ton, but he's a top 120 guy, so 303.74. That would have taken home #1 last year. The only 3 teams to surpass 300 for their class in the last 4 years or so are Bama, OSU, and USC. 2/3 have won a national championship, and USC seems to be finally unfricking themselves post sanctions and Lane Kiffin.

interesting tidbit from TOS (among others)...

one of the recruiting guys was talking to Netori Johnson and Stevens at the Five Star Challenge and asked Netori to round up all the Georgia guys for a group pic. Netori thought he meant all the Georgia commits not the guys from the state of Georgia. the first guy he called over was Akers.

McBride and Calvin Ashley were in Athens yesterday.

Lawrence has told at least two other recruits he "plans on going to UGA".

let's get him back in Athens soon after he visits Clemson.
