Richt had his emphasis on skill players. He felt any big body could block.

Never understood why CMR couldn't get o line prospects

we didnt' get the super elite, top 2 or 3 national type OL but it's not like we were only pulling in 2 stars. The problem was they just didn't seem to pan out that much. I coudlnt' find rankings for 2001 but here are the OL he pulled in 01-04. I used those years because it was his first 4 years recruiting.

01
Kareem Marshall
James Redmond
Dennis Roland
Russ Tanner

02
Inman- 4*
Miller- 3*
Brock- 4*
Mercier- 3*
MJG- 4*

03
Lee- 3*
Jones- 3*
Gainous- 2*
Chandler- 4*
Shack- 3*
Velasco- 3*
Mckenzie- 4*

04
Adams- 3*
Watts- 4*
Swoopes- 3*

Excludign 01 since no rankings there, that's six 4* and eight 3*. NOt great, but not awful. Also there seems to be a renewed emphasis in the SEC now on stellar line play that you didn't quite see as much in richt's early tenure. I mean, the bama OLs that saban has put together aren't the norm, the SEC hasn't seen lines like that in years.

For whatever reason, richt just never got the most out of his OL. In his 15 years here, I can think of about 4 or 5 years where the OL has really been a strength of the team.

Good news is that by all accounts pittman is the guy. Looking forward to some elite OL in the next few years.

Early Richt was actually not bad at OL recruiting... wasn't his wheelhouse, but not bad. I've posted this article before, but does a decent job of showing both a lack of emphasis later on and a failure to land quality players: LINK

I agree CMRs OL recruiting declined over time. I think one of the reasons was the recruiting budget. The decline in OL prospects in the second half of his tenure coincides with the delta in the recruiting budgets. Shoot a couple of years we were at GT and Kentucky levels. Our staff did not have the resources to effectively "find" and recruit these kids. We all know a good RB when we see them. They (skill players) are easier to identify. OL and to some extent DL require a ton of film and legwork. I think CKS now has the staff and cash to do a better job. jmho.

That may be true, but we lost most head to head match ups with kids we did identify. I'll never forget a few years back when we were literally recruiting a "come to UGA and start" tackle. We whiffed while AU (in full train wreck mode) signed 3or 4 4* tackles...including one kid from Florida who signed after signing day, who used to go fishing with bobo.

Looks like the Rivals "insiders" strike again...you really have to take anything from that board with a mountain of salt. Unless matthew1 posts it, then you ought not take it at all.

EDIT: Going back, it looks like Trent posted the same info as well, so maybe someone changed plans. Doesn't change the fact that matthew1 is full of shite, though.

Im not arguing w/ that point at all. I just think the program quit investing. When you have Kentucky's budget you cant expect Bamas trophy case. Im a CKS fan but dont hold CMR as responsible for the decline as many. Both coaches will have a spot in UGAs long history. Just ready for UNC and see what we have in the cupboard. I think the Fr. /soph classes are talented. The Jrs. and Sr.classes are not very strong as a unit.

There surely are a few guys on there that actually do have inside info which is very much appreciated.

But most folks like tylercloud just post things like "UGA fans should be very happy at some point the next 9 weeks" or "[Recruit name] likes us, but he's conflicted. He also likes [other school]. Hearing good things, but you never know in recruiting. Keep an eye on this one" and other crap that doesn't have any substance.

basically the todd gack strategy, if you don't technically ask a girl out (or post specific recruiting info) then you can't ever be turned down (or proven wrong).

Btw, I heard Lawrence has us as his top school but he's conflicted. He should commit to us in the next 9 weeks but you never know with recruiting.

I was just playing off of WG's post. He should commit somewhere within the next 9 weeks since he's stated he wants to be done before this season starts for Cartersville.

With all these guys in and out of Athens this weekend, is there potential for anyone in particular to pull the trigger? I feel like there's all kinds of momentum, and if getting them on campus is the trick, we're good, but I just don't see anyone that I think is right on the verge of committing

There's always a chance...we've got the usual suspects claiming to have received texts, calls, smoke signals, etc. that "we might get some good news this weekend...stay tuned in!"

I have no info but I think that, in addition to Demery next Wed, someone commits in the coming week. Just a gut feeling.
