Wow. That's awesome. Thanks for posting.
I've seen some of you (not necessarily RawDawg) project him at RT. Why do you see him on that side versus LT? Because he'll be a freshman?

There were many impressive –looking prospects, but Georgia offensive tackle commitment Isaiah Wilson was the most impressive. He looks like he has been playing in the NFL for five years..
Damn that comment got the little triple A battery in my pants twitching

I think he could eventually be our LT, but you generally want your LT to be your best pass blocker to protect the blind side of the QB (case in point: Catalina threw some look-out blocks this year, at least one of which led to a fumble in the bowl game). Your RT is the mauler who you typically run behind. I think Wilson can become a LT, but most think his skill set at the moment lends him to RT over LT. He did handle some very good pass rushers, though.

his skill set
So based on what you just said, I'm assuming that means he's a better run blocker than pass pro at least at this time??

While I agree, he might HAVE to be our LT starting out. It depends on the Junior College kid we picked up. (Can't remember his name right now)

Probably. Pass blocking is much more difficult than run blocking. Most OLinemen would rather run block than pass block any day.

no way. Wilson is basically a prototype RT you'd build in a lab, but furthermore it's not like we have no other answer at LT. We brought Hayes in for this exact very reason, dude is alreayd on campus, and he's a JUCO that already has years of playing experience at the college level.
Come November who knows, maybe he won't work out, but starting out in September Hayes is going to get first crack at LT and I imagine Wilson will get the nod at RT if not in game 1 then very very soon thereafter.

He's extremely athletic for his size but I think I remember reading that his technique needs some polishing. That's why he will probably start day 1 at RT then move to LT once he's polished. Jake Matthews (Falcons LT) did the exact same thing at TA&M.
Hayes is the JUCO LT coming in and Andrew Thomas has been reallllly good at LT in the Army practices so far so they might leave Wilson at RT..who knows. I'm glad we have this problem of too many big, athletic OL.

Wilson has drawn a lot of comparisons to DJ Fluker, who played RT for Bama and really dominated people in the run game. I think it's pretty spot-on. I think Thomas is your more prototypical LT, Wilson could be a bigger piece to the puzzle at RT in a run-heavy offense.

Right now he is and I agree.

Isn't that why we brought catalina in? I realize the differences, but Catalina won awards IIRC ans expected to be the anchor at LT.

Again. I agree. Like I said, we might be forced to put Wilson at LT.

I see Hayes as being a vast improvement over Catalina. Catalina attended Rhode Island out of high school, excelled against weak competition, graduated, then transferred. Hayes was going to Louisville out of HS, didn't qualify, and is now rated as a 4 star kid after two years playing at Second Chance U... one was always an athlete, the other was always wishful thinking.

To me the main difference was Catalina looked the part but was forced to adjust to SEC football too fast. He had 1 season to cram it all in, he had to learn on the field and he struggled. Hayes has a few seasons and I believe will have a good battle with Andrew Thomas for the LT spot next season. It will be very interesting to watch. Both look like very good options for a vastly improved OL. I personally can't wait to see how the OL looks next season. This is by far the best OL recruiting we've ever had.

There's a new article on DawgNation about a possible new recruit. The nation's No. 3 OG Tedarrell Slaton, 6'5 350 pounds. He says he wants to play DT. I just don't know if we have room for him. If Solomon doesn't come to us, he could be a take. He's been dominant in practice at the AA Bowl practices. He's also formed a bond with the UGA guys and is the only non-UGA commit hanging out with UGA recruits other than Solomon.

Maybe. And I am being devil's advocate here. We all thought Catalina was going to be the answer. Fact is....none of us know until the season starts and we them under fire.

All in all, this what it comes down to. We have a bunch of guys who look like they could fill some big needs for us, but no one will know how they will pan out until the real lights come one.

Absolutely weaker competition. The only football program in all of New England (RI, CT, MA, VT, NH and ME) that's even slightly worth a crap is BC. That's it.
And BC can't hold a candle to the SEC.

Jamyest would have to play the McKenzie role. I'm not sure he's big enough for what Smart wants at CB. The last small CB I can remember being great was Tim Jennings.
