This is true. But we talked him out of going on an OV to Texas just a month or so ago. bad form for us to tell him he is committed to us and should honor that commitment, then we don't honor our commitment to him. That, IMO, is what they are upset about.

We didn't tell him to not take that trip with the knowledge that Sony and Nick were coming back. Situations change, his family didn't seem too upset about it overall, so I won't be either.

No, but if I'm going to get some bad news I'd rather it come from the person I'm closest too.

Look, Richt had some frick ups in recruiting, too, that made him look like a bad guy... almost all coaches do. When you're recruiting 200+ kids for 25 roster spots, someone is going to catch a raw deal once and a while. Kelsey Griffin held a press conference and committed to UGA only to receive a phone call a few hours later from ol' Rotney telling him his offer was no longer committable; if he ever got a phone call from Richt, it was well after the fact. The QB (Hawkins, maybe?) from Carver HS who drove all the way up to Athens with his ENTIRE family to commit in person only to be told that we would not accept it and he didn't have a committable offer got us locked out of Carver for years. A lot of kids who commit early get told to look elsewhere when a bigger fish comes around; it happens everywhere. Should we have told Chubb or Michel that they couldn't come back and we were pulling their scholarship? Hell no.

I really wish Carter could have been a part of this class. He seems like a really good kid and I hope he tears it up at Texas, but when you have finite roster spots, you have to pick and choose by position and need. RB was no longer a need.

I understand that. But, you don't tell a kid not to take one of his 5 paid trips, then change the terms. he is now stuck going to UT having never gone on an official visit. I hope it works out for him, but if it turns out bad....

Probably the best thing would have been for both of them to get on the phone together in a conference call. It's a matter of respect, and showing that you are sorry how it turned out. It's not a perfect situation any way they go, but you try to make the damage as light as you can.

Recruiting at a high level isn't always pretty, I'd rather we tell him to hit the road if it means we can have room to take one of our defensive targets.

So would I. But that has nothing to do with how he feels.

Imagine how you would feel if you got engaged to a girl and she said she was committed to you. You then told a girl you were dating, and liked that it was over, and you couldn't see her anymore, that you loved your fiance. then the fiance said due to unforseen circumstances she wasn't going to marry you, but hey! You can always go back to your second choice!

If you can't understand how the Carters feel, then there is nothing else that can be said.

I'm not blaming the coaching staff. I am just saying that it was unfortunate the way it played out. It will be even more unfortunate if Gibbs turns around and tells us to take a hike. (Although, I suspect Gibbs is solidly in our camp, or we wouldn't have told Carter we could not take him)

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I hate to tie up the recruiting thread with this situation. It is a done deal and over.

Agreed DawgsLife... We need Nate McBride to drop a new XMas Video on us to put this in the rearview

I think grown up millionaires who represent a major University need to be held to a higher standard than a 17 year old, but that's just me....

The job of our coaches is to get the best HS players they can to come to UGA to help us win football games. If our staff thinks that someone else helps us do that better than TC does in this cycle, then it's their job to make it happen.

Does it suck? Well yeah, it sucks pretty bad for the kid and it kinda makes us look like jerks. But it's not the coaches job to not be jerks, it's their job to win football games. Our fans have lamented time and time again that richt just wasn't cutthroat enough and was "too nice", now we're getting in the mud and playing the game that others do and we're pissed because we hurt a kid's feelings.

I'm hopeful this was about early enrollment and not a straight pull of the offer. Bottom line is his EE slot went WAY down on the propriety list when Sony and Chubb returned.

If he had an offer, but not the not the option to enroll in Jan, I can live with that considering the circumstances.

I think the whole recruiting thing is a dirty entity having lived through it... on many levels. I'm not worried about that part. It's just a piss poor showing of leadership not to have handled this from the top. There is a time for delegating and a time for leadership by example. He could have spun this into a positive or at least defensible situation in the public eye. Now it just kinda looks slimy. I guess some people are ok with that from their leadership....

Kirby could win a natty and you'd find a way to hate on him, Peter.

I don't think Peter's problem is that we did not take carter...I think he is saying Kirby should have been in on the call to tell the kid. And, I agree. He should have been in on the call with whoever recruited the kid.

But, again, it is a done deal and it is over.
