Its a statement game for a new staff. So I think it is. There might have been more at stake, nationally, in '11, but this game means more to the program, ultimately.

Hopefully - it's a better result. I was at that game and the loss to USCe the next week. It sucked arse- cannot believe we won division that year after starting the season 0-2

I really think people overrate the importance of this season, especially the early games. As long as UGA shows some growth over the season, the health of the program long-term should be fine.

Yeah I don't think i've fully recovered or forgiven Richt for those two opening loss games...they stung pretty bad.

no...they get a pass for UNC cause it is a new coach and new staff...Boise was a debacle of epic proportions...we got outmanned on the line all game...it was embarrassing and it was in our backyard...that shite was terrible...and those uni's...

We had more talent than Boise State, and their relatively smooth victory was a big indication that Richt could be outcoached.

Win or lose, I just want to see two things:

1) High energy, low mental mistakes.
2) Chubb rushing for 300 yards.

If both of these happen, we win by 2 scores.

People make way too much of that boise loss. A combination of it being in GA, us wearing those repulsive uniforms, and the name on their jerseys makes people like it was some travesty.

News flash: that team was ranked 5th preseason and actually have TWO FIRST PLACE votes. On the other hand we were ranked 19th coming off a 6-7 year. They ran through pretty much everyone they played that year and finished 12-1 and ranked in the top 10. Their only loss was by 1 point to a TCU team that finished 11-2 and ranked 13th. Oh btw, boise also beat Arizona State in their bowl game by 30.

People want to get pissed and say "georgia should never lose to boise state!!!!" and while I somewhat agree with the premise as a whole...in that one particular occasion in 2011 they were simply the better football team. There are far, FAR worse losses to get upset about than that one.

As for SC the next week...taht team finished 11-2 adn ranked 8th in the country.

I get being frustrated after losses, I mean who wouldn't be? But again, those losses were AT LEAST to GOOD teams who proved their worth over the year. Those 2 losses wouldn't even border on the top 10 losses of richt's career.

It wasn't the loss that upset me. It was the fact that we were playing them at all.

We play in the SEC, the rest should be cupcake to average.

I wholly agree with you there. UF made a 20+ year run of success built on winning the SEC, holding their own against their permanent OOC, then cupcakes the rest of the way. I'm in full agreeance there.

by recruiting ranks sure, but it's not like they were GAsouthern. In the '11 nad '12 drafts they had 9 players drafted, including 5 within the first 3 rounds.

I think the UNC game means very little. It is an out of conference game and the first one for a new staff.

We can lose that game and still be just fine accomplishing our objective.

They also had some really good players who went on to have success in the NFL, like Doug Martin.

This UNC game is big for this season, and is a good measuring stick for where the program is right now. Overall though, unless this season goes completely in the tank, it's not a huge game in the big picture. If Georgia has the label as "young team no one wants to see in their bowl game" at the end of the season, it will be a successful one.

IMO, Kirby's first truly huge game will be at Notre Dame in 2017. The 2017 team should be loaded and ranked in the top 10 to begin the season with legitimate SEC championship hopes. This season is all about getting the systems in place and developing Eason. If we lose 4 along the way, it won't be well received but so be it.

I can't either. It'll be the longest four hour drive of my life.

ETA: This pick is a year early, but I'm guessing 15-20k UGA fans at the game and another 30k or so in South Bend for it. There will be a lot of red in that stadium.

IDK if it's bigger although the next 1st game of the season is just as big as is the next. It's by far, the most intriguing. I have no idea what to expect. You can't compare Boise State and UNC because of years/timeframe and the evolution of the programs. Boise State would kick either of our asses again (if it was the same boise state roster)
