I've heard that manziel and a&m are in negotiations with the NCAA to suspend him for just the first two games as punishment. Is there any truth to this? I don't have a link, and it's just hearsay.

I haven't heard this but it wouldn't surprise me. The backlash would be huge though

My prediction is A&M will say
If the NCAA had the proof they needed the ban hammer would have already been dropped.

I'm thrilled they reached an agreement on this ordeal. The SECr will be nuts for a couple days, but games start this week and hopefully that means people will move on. I'm ready for some freaking football and actual football talk.
I think the deal makes sense to everyone. The NCAA probably knew they'd have a hard time making a case so they save face. A&M would have been playing a season with JFF with a cloud of uncertainty hanging over them all year, not knowing what was going to happen. Plus they get to put this behind them now. As for JFF, well he don't give a frick. He's gonna be selling the shite out of his autographs very shortly. Oh, and it's just 1/2 game against Rice.

I don't really have much respect for John Lopez as a journalist but his article today is interesting. It's something I think we all sort of figured but it's the first time I've seen it in print. Then again, his source may be the SECrant for all we know
quote:
But a source close to key figures in the case said multiple notable players who have starred in the game over the past decade were found to have had contact with the same brokers involved in the Manziel case.
The star-studded “client list” goes back as far as 2004, according to the source, and might have rocked the NCAA’s world — especially if the NCAA ruled Manziel ineligible despite no evidence that he accepted money for autographs.
The source said prominent names from virtually every major football conference were found to have had a relationship at some level with the brokers.
quote:
By rule, players can be ruled ineligible retroactively and wins and championships can be vacated. The breadth of potential changes to the record book might have been staggering.

A&M got piece of mind at the cost of 1/2 game without JFF. Even if they find further wrongdoing, I don't see it coming back to haunt the school unless someone there is complicit in covering things up. I'd buy that all day long.
