I'm editing this remark for my own privacy. Suggesting firing Sumlin to hire Les Miles (LOL), and all the disparaging remarks you make about Texas A&M football on SEC rant remind me of why I need to take a nice sabbatical from this site.

Peace and out.

You also played for a coach who knew his head from his arse. We haven't had a coach like that since 1995. Slocum stopped being that coach upon his first Big 12 game.

Ok - just curious. What replacement head coach do you have in mind?

If not Les Miles, either Craig Bohl (NDSU, Wyoming), P.J. Fleck (WMU), or Mark McEntyre (Colorado).

There is no Mark McEntyre at CU.

There is a Mike MacIntyre though.

and speaking of CU, if we were to go the coordinator route as some here have suggested I would consider CU's DC Jim Leavitt. He built South Florida from nothing into a very competitive school and by now has surely paid his debt for the foolish way he got fired there. He also has massively turned around the defense at CU. They went from being terribad to quite good and very physical. Hell, Alabama even tried to hire him away from USF at one point.

I would take MacIntyre and their staff in a second. They've done a great building inroads into Texas recruiting wise as well.

You are spot on, but nobody wants to hear it. They were just talking about a similar discussion on Coach Tomlin on ESPN "First Take". They said that people have this fallacy of trying to compare everyone to Belichick.

They one thing they did stress is that "psychologically" for the fan-base, the coach has to continue doing what hr did to get him there... For A&M fans it is offense and Sumlin hasn't delivered a great offense since 2012.

Do you mean every year since we haven't had a QB? We were on a pretty good path until Knight got hurt. You need to let this go.

Sumlin has a $15MM buyout if fired this year with a payment in 60 days clause.

In this oil price environment, that isn't happening.

Does he need to be fired? Yes. Absolutely. But it can't be done this year.

Next season is going to be very bad for A&M regardless of the coach. We have a lot of talent graduating or leaving for the NFL and no QB.

The smart play here given the buyout and what's in store in terms of record next season is give him next year to let him just totally destroy himself, then fire him with a much reduced buyout. That way, we catch no flack for making the wrong decision and save ourselves money. Also, that way we don't ruin our new coach in the first year, since not even Saban could have a good season with the talent we'll have and no QB.

No coach has ever received the full buyout. There are always negotiations. I'm assuming if fired, the AD will use the alleged drinking issues people talk about as a way to keep him honest.

I don't like it, but business is business.

Having said that, I don't think he gets fired. Not many great coaches out there to choose from. No candidates out there can take us to the next level in which we can have a chance to beat Bama. Hiring anyone right now will only lead us to be back in the same spot 5 years from now.

If we beat everyone else BUT Alabama, that's still 11-14 win seasons.

If we don't strive to beat Bama, then why even field a team?

When I read a statement like that the very next words that come into my head are "Fire Les Miles!"

You strive to BE Alabama, not to just beat them.

In 2012 we failed to beat LSU but beat Alabama. Result: Top 5 finish instead of national title.

I think I'm in a position to say this, because I helped put this program on the map.

Oh really? Who are you? What map are we on again? We're the laughing stock of the college football world. We've gone from #4 to #23, depending on the poll you look at. After losing to LSU we won't be ranked. I want to believe in Sumlin and part of me wants to give him another year but I can't take this anymore. I have to wonder how many recruits are going to decommit now. How many years are we going to have to put up with mediocrity? I don't know who we could/should go after but I don't think Sumlin is the answer anymore.
