So why couldn't Kevin take Kyler to Texas at some point over that two year recruiting period and not wait until the last minute when HIS alma mater has no other options? No reason from what I can tell, except the fact that when the Murrays did all that the timing gave them maximum leverage to negotiate with Sumlin. If you don't think given what played out with Kyler's playing time that Kevin didn't use that leverage, well let's just say denial isn't just a river in Egypt.

This.

Anyone who has ever negotiated for anything in their life knows what it was. If someone was to suggest that Kyler didn't go to Charlie for leverage I'd have to assume that they're either naive or just in denial that their hero sucks. I'm going to go with denial, because surely most everyone on here has purchased a car or bought and sold houses before and is familiar with the concept of leverage.

The very fact that he did that to us at all - go to UT in the last moment of recruitment when we had no other QB - proves once and for all that Kevin isn't a friend of the program. No one with genuine good intentions for A&M would have waited until the last second to have his son visit UT. That was a punk move. Justifying it as "doing the best for his son" when he'd had months before to do it is just living in denial.

To have me believe that Kevin Murray had no idea the position he was putting Sumlin in and the perception he was creating by having Kyler visit UT at the last second you'd have to convince me that Kevin Murray is completely stupid and I reject that premise. He isn't.

It could be that Kevin Murray thought he could get away with it because of "what he did for A&M" and grossly underestimated the backlash.

Curious if either of Kevins's defenders want to chime in after what was said. It's pretty clear cut to me....

Well, and he DID have the leverage. Here is where I can't find fault:

-I can't fault Sumlin for making the promises he probably made when Kevin put the gun to his head. In late January losing Kyler would have probably meant losing Mack (AND Texas gets Lodge and a top 5 class) so he was stuck with whatever Kevin wanted

-I can't blame Kevin for finding the best situation for his son no matter where he himself went to school

-I can't blame Kyler for his dad's wheeling and dealing, especially when it wasn't certain his future was in football

What I WILL do, and who I WILL blame, is Kevin for not having the sense to see that no matter how awesome his son was in high school he REALLY needed a redshirt year. Kevin held all the cards and played them, and in doing so he put in son in a sub-optimal situation.

I get that Kyler wants to play day one, I get that his ego wouldn't allow him to gladly accept a red shirt. What I don't get is how his dad with more football experience than any of us couldn't see his son for what he was- a PROSPECT that needed to be developed. That is his role as a father, to put the sons ego in check.

If this all goes to shite it is because Kyler Murray is your typical coddled millennial special snowflake. I can't see any other explanation that makes sense.
