Was 79F today at Olsen Field.

Snow flurries here in Mid-MO this morning, but the sun broke out this afternoon... and warmed us all the way up to 35F.

BEEEEEEEautiful day at the ball park today.

The score didn't really reflect how well the ball was hit today. I don't think I ever seen so many screamers speared in the infield or line / pop ups right at outfielders today. Both ways but most so coming off Aggie bats. After dropping a Friday heartbreaker, it was nice to see us come back and take the series from a solid ball club. I expect them to win the WAC even though they are sitting at 4-4.

Fans were into it, but not a packed house by any means. he lower level & upper deck right behind home was a little bare. Had a nice little ball 8 going. Got the first base coach for SS to play along with his backing up.

I'm searching for club seats to Tuesday's game vs HBU. If anyone knows anyone selling, let me know.

Non A&M post coming...

While checking out some baseball news on WN, I came across this on tu's schedule. They play Hawaii 6x in 4 days. Then have a Tuesday game vs Texas State. That's 7 games in 6 days. I hope that isn't right. That gives Soggie Burrito a chance to destroy some arms for later in the season & career. That'd can't be right can it?

I like to do in-season stat checks a few times a year. Granted it's only been 7 games, but the offense is looking much improved, so I am eager to look. The first big difference that I see is the reduction in strike outs. In 2013, we struck out 418 times in 539.2 innings (Ouch!). That's 6.97 Ks per nine innings. So far in 2014, that's down 22 times in 57 innings... 3.47 Ks per nine innings.

Coming into 2014, I expected production from Bratsen, Lankford, Stein, Melton, and Mengden... five bats and not a lot of power or speed. We've gotten production from Nau, Statum (senior has stepped up!), Stein, McLendon (JC transfer), Moss (sophomore busting out), Nottebrook (JC transfer and power threat), Melton, and Lankford. Assuming Bratsen is productive when he returns, there's a full lineup right there, *and* RC gets to keep Mengden as a pitcher-only. Let's hope that these guys can have some success in SEC play.

Not even going to bother looking at pitching right now as starting pitching is rock solid, and RC is always experimental with his bullpen this early in the season. My one real concern has been Jester out of the bullpen, but given how solid he was last season, I think he'll be fine.

As I said, we're only 7 games in to 2014, but it's already been a lot more fun than 2013!

Mengden had no business playing the outfield or batting last year.

I'm thankful we have that problem I don't know the numbers but I seem to remember Allemand struggling some against lefties from the right side last year. Maybe McLendon can fill in there and give Taylor a game off every once in a while? Not sure if he's capable of playing OF. Regardless its a good problem to have right now

Also check Jace's OBP love to see him step up and take control after getting a chance to play every day finally. If he keeps it up they may have to move him to the top of the lineup

You do realize that in the 5 games McLendon played at SS he has 3 errors?

Right. He can still hit, which is why they need to find a way to work him in the lineup even if its off the bench. They list OF as a position on Aggie Athletics so maybe he can fill in there occasionally

I'm a believer that you find places for the best nine bats in the lineup unless you're left with a *terrible* situation defensively. Matt Juengel fielding under .900 at 3B in 2011 being an example. BTW, I do make an exception to that rule for the catcher.

Is McLendon at SS another example? I think it's too early to tell.

Taylor has looked really damn solid at SS but I tend to agree. I'm hoping he can enough at the plate to justify keeping him out there

Childress rarely puts the best 9 on the field. As a matter of fact, to quote RC, "I put the 9 on the field that play the best together, not the best 9"

Matt Juengel was pretty much the DH in 2011. Adam Smith and Andrew Collazo rotated at 3B.

I'm guessing he meant 2012 but the point still stands. And we aren't trying to predict what Childress will do just saying we hope McLendon continues to get ABs

we could see him getting ABs all over the place as a utility player. But I just don't see an obvious every day spot for him unless he starts hitting like Nottebrok.

It's still early. RC moving guys around a little.

I'll be at Olsen tonight. Hope it stays dry. I'm 2nd row between home and the dugout. I'll be wearing the white and maroon cap.

Ok I was on the wrong station. I thought for a moment that a small miracle had happened and Will Johnson would not be on tonight.
