heres what ive found interesting. we all know green bay likes to run and they score a lot. they were 6th in points per game. but heres the thing, they arent very efficient. they are 102nd in offensive efficiency. they score 1.28 points per shot and a lot of that is from their free throws. they have attempted the most field goals in the country, but are 130th in FG%. whats interesting is that while they want to run wild, they dont take many threes (103rd in 3 point field goals attempted). which is even more surprising when you look at how many turnovers they force (4th in the country). since they force so many turnovers and you would assume (ive never seen them play, just drawing assumptions based on their team stats) that they get into transition often because of those forced turnovers and that theyd shoot a lot of threes out of transition. but they dont. probably because they arent very good at making them (they are shooting 35%). so they force turnovers, get into transition, and they look to take the ball to rim where they still shoot poorly (171st in 2pt field goal percentage) or to get fouled and shoot freethrows (2nd most FT attempts in the country) where they STILL shoot insanely poorly (313th in the country in FT percentage). the average of their rosters points per 100 possessions is 19.85 and their median is 19.95. thats not great either

just by looking at these stats, as long as caruso can limit his usual brain farts and as long as we can control the tempo of the game, which we should, we should win this game pretty easily. they seemingly get everything off turnovers and if we can limit those, i dont see where they can get points. my only fear is that jalen gets a little too out of control when the tempo turns up and that caruso loves to play out of himself but im not really worried about this game

and honestly, we really dont do much better from a raw statistic standpoint. we are much more efficient on offense, 56th in ORtg, but the real difference comes from how well we play defense. green bay may hang around throughout the first half, but we should get a double digit lead sometime in the 2nd half and never look back

Holy wall of text

I did see an interesting post on a gambling forum I frequent though that had the following stats

32 of the last 36 Final 4 teams (07-current) were top 50 in both offensive and defensive efficiency (we are in this group). Three of the other teams were top 10 in one of the two, 2011 VCU is the only outlier from this.

Oregon OU and Texas are the other top 50 teams in both from our region

Kansas, Nova, Miami, Cal, Arizona, Iowa and Vandy (!) from the south (this region is stacked if we didn't know that already. Kansas got fricked IMO)

UNC Xavier WVU in the east

UVA MSU and Purdue in the Midwest

Just something to keep in mind when looking at the tourney in general, I thought it was interesting

Vandy jumps out at me too as a play in 11 seed fitting that criteria. Granted they're an underdog tonight and could easily lose but I guess it kind of confirms the eye test thing with them, that they look like a really good team a lot of the time.

vandy is a good team with legit first round talent that just under performed for some weird reason. they played kansas close ealier this year in maui. they just seem to play down to their competition and they have trouble beating any good team they play outside of memorial gym where they have a slew of unusual advantages. youre right though, by eye test, they should be pretty good. they just got fricked by having to play an underseeded arizona team on thursday

They still have to beat Wichita tonight too. They're actually a 4.5 point underdog now

Back to our region though, I've had a really tough time picking it. I like the way we match up with everyone in our path except maybe Oregon. But I think Oregon could struggle with Baylor (I am really bearish on Duke this year).

Ours is the toughest region to pick IMO because a lot of people don't trust Oregon. Maybe because they aren't a blue blood or a lot of people haven't watched them. For some reason we have become the trendy pick though

Kentucky showed me they are probably playing at a 1-seed level right now, and we aren't far behind. Honestly if we don't go full-aggy we can make a run. We dodge the showstoppers in Kansas and UNC.

heres how i filled my bracket out, jumping to the sweet 16

oregon over baylor: baylor gets a lucky overseeded duke in the 2nd round and then they get a tossup with a pretty weak 1 seed. im still going with oregon

ou of us: this a game we have a great chance at winning but we have to do it before i actually believe our program is capable of actually getting a win in the second weekend

oregon over OU: for the same reasons why i think we have a good chance at winning, im giving oregon the nod. i just dont have any faith of OU making the final four

our region is pretty weak honestly and a lot of that stems from the fact that we have a pretty weak 1 seed and a 2 seed that is just prime for a tournament disappointment. i picked a region final between oregon and OU but it could easily be baylor vs us. i think we are the trendy pick because people recognize how weak our region is and they see that we are a 3 seed and want to look like theyre smart and pick a program that hasnt had much success to make a run. i see it, but i dont think its going to happen. but our run is set up pretty good. both us and baylor got GREAT draws

I picked Duke to lose in the first round and us to beat OU but lose to Oregon in the Elite 8

I also think Kentucky is headed to the Final 4

This looks familiar.

LINK

The game was 11-9 A&M with 8:20 left in the first half before the Aggies went on a 20-9 run to close the half.

In the second half, Penn took the lead 39-37 at the 13:06 mark. From there, A&M outscored Penn 32-13 to close out the game. The headline, however, was "Acie Law struggles in win".

Right now I'm working on a node/angular app for an Internet of Things application. I also write some Clojure for a media-streaming backend. Can't be any more specific than that, NDA and such. I have a CS degree from A&M.
