Oof, yeah, just read the 247 thread on that. I certainly understand if that's what Ivan chooses. He probably doesn't have a future in football beyond this year. But damn that would suck as he really came on last year.

At the risk of sounding like a cliff jumper I'm definitely lowering my expectations for next year based on this offseason so far. We are just so thin everywhere on defense

no question it's been a bad off-season. Seems the DT situation is going to be pretty rough next year again.

Nose - Walker, Henderson
3-tech - Williams, Manning, Washington

Only 2 of those guys have ever even played a down. On the plus side, everyone seems to be raving about Henderson. And my guess is we'll see some Arnold in the mix as needed.

But I honestly don't see how you can redshirt either of the fish given a 5-man depth chart. One injury, suspension, etc and you are completely up shite creek. That's a longer term problem.

I could see Arnold being another Spencer Nealy type.

Some may have seen this already because it's a day or two old but I'm just now reading it. More detail on the Isaiah Golden situation from the 247 board LINK

quote:

Just talked to Mrs. Golden and she said that all is well with Isiah. I won't go into specifics as she asked me not to...I will say that Isiah, while he has indeed withdrawn from classes, it's not something that he chose to do on his own. He had to withdraw in order to enter the rehab program. He should be finishing the rehab april 5 I was told.He isn't leaving a&m and is expected to be back at some point this spring/summer.
She is in constant contact with coach Sumlin and Isiah.

quote:

Me (his father)being Isaiah's #1 fan outside of his Mom and his brothers and his family , the list goes on and on . Y'all shouldn't give up on him yet it's just been near 6 months since we lost Avery! His baby ... Give him time don't count him out but pray for him ...he's a warrior he's been playing the game since 7 grade starting and his dedication hasn't weaken as of yet for the sport , we are all thrown curve balls in life , give him a break ....PoPs!

Have you heard anything about our QBs since we started practice? I haven't really heard much, just wondering if Connor has won the starting job yet or not.

Just a matter of when it will be announced, not if. Connor is head and shoulders above any other ginger QB on campus

In all honesty, what I was told is that right now Kenny Hill is probably in the lead. He's comfortable in the offense, has exceptional confidence (a hugely underrated QB skill), and can make all the throws. His deep ball is really really good and he throws it effortlessly. That's going to be a big selling point as we transition from WRs that are more of the possession type to the explosive variety. I think we're going to see a lot more deep balls (and that actually goes hand-in-hand with more running).

That said, there are code words about Allen being used. You can tell we're really excited about him. The coaches think he's even more than advertised*. Reminds me a lot of the '12 talk of Manziel. But one thing is certain, we think we're going to surprise a lot of people with how good our QB play is this year.

* they are honestly gushing over all 3 of the HS EEs. I remember last year quite the opposite as words like "raw", "good frame", and "develop" were commonly thrown out about Chevis, Wade, Jaquay, Sezer and Points.

Do we expect Golden to redshirt next season to take care of his business?

it's the open question. If I had to guess, he'll redshirt and work on school and life, but it's probably too early to know that for sure.

Supposedly Golden is going to try to make it back for the '14 season. Word is he's going to rehab to try to kick his weed habit.

I can't blame him for being a bit f'd up right now. There are some negative events that carry such an immense emotional weight that the only way to get over them is time. Losing a daughter is one of those.

WR Kyrion Parker missed the early part of spring practice but participated Tuesday for the first time. Today he's out again and is apparently going to have surgery on his ankle and won't return til the fall.

Heard a lot of good things about him in the Fall so it really sucks he's not getting a chance to compete right now.

-Not surprisingly, a source at practice today shared this little tidbit with us, “Speedy is the truth.” Anyone who’s followed our coverage knows the Edna Karr product has been spectacular through the first 7 practices and once again made a few veteran DBs look silly in the open field.

To be fair, tight ends that run a 4.9 40 time make our veteran dbs look silly.
