FWIW, so people with traditionally good info are saying on 247 it's 50/50 whether Sumlin will be back next year. Apparently he doesn't want to be here any more than many of us want him here.
Who do these idiot boosters think we're gonna get this time of the year? It's never a good time to run off a .750 coach but this is especially bad.

It's more about him trying to find a way out than us firing him. NFL rumors and such.

That's not a huge concern. Many contracts run until December 31, so waiting is usually the game that gets played (like we did with Chavis). Also, if our new OC is in a bowl game then there is a good chance Sumlin wants to wait it out.

Remember, Sumlin is a super secretive guy. He managed to keep the DC hire under a tight seal. His executive decisions usually don't get leaked or get leaked very late. Give it time. I'm sure Sumlin is going to want to keep Spavital as a QB coach or in some capacity since they are buddies (though he'd be a dumbass if he did). Firing Spavital or demoting him now without having an OC lined up or announced would hurt recruiting.

Sterlin Gilbert and Jim Chaney, two of the OC hires I mentioned, both have contracts that run thru Dec. 31 and both have bowl games... And that didn't stop them from getting hired.

And on the DC hire last year, there was a ton of smoke thru the entire month of December. Some about foster, some about Chavis. I don't agree that the DC search was kept under wraps

And I think Sumlin didn't like how there was smoke last year because he thinks it cost him recruits.

Last year there was smoke about muschamp for about a week, then it was split between durkin/vena led, then Foster the rest of the way. Chavis smoke was only for a few days before it actually happened. No one was wen aware Chavis was an option until right before we hired him.

The only smoke Sumlin is seeing now is coming from his pants being on fire.

I'm now convinced it's a conspiracy, Sumlin reads this board and he is purposefully extending the process because your glorious melting entertains him, and us as well

Per the Dude of WV's Twitter, Spav has been traded to them as a QB coach. We're rid of him!!!!!

I can't believe people actually believed his 'Clemson and Florida State to the Big12' predictions.

I told y'all stuff would start to unfold after the dead period.

This dude may or may not be on point, but Sumlin is making a change and it is to more than one offensive staff position. This is happening.

Aka what the sips felt about his realignment predictions. I then proceeded to laugh at them for over a year.

He is the worst source maybe ever.

Here is what I believe is happening:

- Sumlin likes spav, told him he was getting demoted to QB coach (which I am fine with he's one of the best recruiters in the country), but that he would help spav find an OC position somewhere if spav so chose.

- spav was offered to come back to WVU, but he would only do so if the HC had some job security, which would explain the WVdude's tweet.

- one of DC or McKinney is getting fired. We do not have a replacement found yet.

- the new OC is going to be Meachem. It does not make any sense that Cumbie would turn down 1M dollars at Texas, no matter the job security. Plus, Texas admins told their new OC strong was there through 2016/17 season. The reason Cumbie turned the job down so quickly is because Cumbie is getting playcalling duties next year. There are rumors about this in Fort Worth that Meachem has accepted a new job, but they are largely unsubstantiated and based on hearsay or info posted by insiders on Texas and TCU message boards.

- lots of people believe Sumlin has the OC decided. I think he does not have the other assistant, whoever that may be, determined yet.

- I don't know why the dead period is a significant date, but it is.

- if it is Meachem, I think it will be DC that we let go. But Meachem has coached every position except for QB I believe.

In short, spurrier for QB coach

Would love to have Meacham, but I also like hearing reports that Dana is coaching for his job. Either of those guys would be home run hires for OC.
