We need someone who can call clutch plays. Especially on 3rd down.
The Arky coordinator is a good example. (Just didn't execute against us).

I mostly don't want Stitt because he has one year of running an offense above D3, and his offense didn't exactly light the world on fire this year. 28th in total offense, 42nd in scoring offense, 42nd in red zone offense. I can't find a yards per play ranking for FCS but they averaged 5.14 yards per play which is not good. We averaged like 5.6 this year for reference. And Montana is a solid FCS program so it's not like he's working with inferior talent.
It would either be a home run or completely blow up in our face though so at least it would be interesting.

I seem to recall that he lost his QB to an injury, at some point. But don't quote me on that. But, yeah, it's an understatement to say he is unproven in the SEC.
But there are no proven SEC OCs available. So whoever we get is gonna be a question mark. Mazzone has a regiment of haters and he's coached at ASU & UCLA with respectable offenses.

if sumlin had any real experience as a full time oc this wouldn't be as big a deal...but we hired a guy whose only experience is calling plays for part of a season in slocum's last year.
blah blah leadership, blah blah recruiting. blah fricking blah. how about next time around we hire a guy who can also...idk...coach.

He does have experience not winning a conference title at Houston.
Mack Brown + Swag - championships = Sumlin

Isn't that what Chavis is for?
Maybe he has an OC he hates to play against. Hire that guy.

we kinda need to cover both sides of the ball. sumlin is just a ceo type who needs good coordinators on both sides because he isn't competent on either.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that. The only national title any Texas team has won in my lifetime was won by a CEO coach.

it can work, BUT when a coach like sumlin, brown or miles doesn't get a hire right it's catastrophic. whereas a hc who is at least serviceable on one side of the ball greatly reduces his chances of NEEDING two good coordinator hires instead of just one. you think it matters as much who the dc is for bama? i know msstate and okstate have their limits as far as personnel, but do mullen or spike NEED a good oc?
it's good to have a hc who can also fall back on being a playcaller if need be.
meyers offense fell off this year without herman, but it didn't come to a complete stop or fall apart.
guys like sumlin who can recruit and serve as a figurehead are great IF they have good coordinators on BOTH sides of the ball.

As I said in Hyman thread, I believe Hyman firing is more related to Sumlin that you guys think (old sarge says BL said this in his update as well?).
old rumors now relevant:
There is a rumor coming out of the AD that the donors are planning to clean house and get rid of Sumlin and Hyman.
New rumor:
Chip Kelly has shown interest.

He pretty much said what I did, that it was a warning to Sumlin along with the new president wanting to make changes. I'll try to find what he said exactly

Was the timing coincidental and in line with a new university president settling in and making his first big move as it relates to Aggie Athletics? Or is this something designed to get the attention of the fourth-year A&M head coach?
