I was on a flight Monday morning from DFW to Charlotte. While getting off the plane, I noticed a couple that were dressed in Notre Dame gear, and they looked Hawaiian. They got off before me, but I thought "why would they be in Charlotte?" Then I remembered hearing that Manti was going to be in Charlotte for the Nagurski (sp?) Award presentation. So, I felt a little weird, but I had to ask. The woman was by herself charging her phone. When I asked if she was, by any chance, related to Manti Te'o, she replied "as a matter of fact, I'm his Mom". She was cool and made me feel at ease. We talked for about 15 minutes regarding Manti's decision to go to Notre Dame, their success and recruiting. I told her about Coach Polian being at A&M, and she corrected me. I had said "Bill Polian" and she said "it's Brian". She gushed when she talked abou him because he recruited Manti to Notre Dame. I asked about Isaac Savii, and she mentioned that her husband was the Running Backs coach for Isaac's school.

When the man approached he introduced himself as Brian (because his real name was Hawaiian and long). This is how the conversation went:

Mom: "He went to Texas A&M."
Dad: "Great! I have a player on my team that committed to Texas A&M!" And he mentioned Isaac's name.
Me: "Really? Did he just commit?"
Dad: "Maybe not yet." (smiling)
Me: "But you know which way he is leaning?"
Dad: "Well, he has been wearing A&M stuff under his gear lately, and I thought he was trying to make a clear statement."

I about had a heart attack! I told them that I was concerned about UCLA being just across the water, and the Dad said "it's just another sandwhich and a drink. Once you are on a plane, it's just another stop." The mom assured me that proximity to Hawaii would NOT be a limiting factor.

We talked more about Manti, JFF and the fame and temptations they are facing. His Dad said, "well if Manti screws up I will put a big tattoo across his backside!" We had some good laughs.

I figured that you guys would want to know, so I had a picture taken with them. The Dad motioned for Mom to move over and for me to get in the middle. They are very cool and down to earth. In fact, I had to excuse myself because I had to get back on the road. Now, I don't know how to post the pic, so Sex Panther, send me your email address. Or, I can ge my son to get it to you (he is another Ag and poster).

I haven't posted in about 10 years, but obviously TexAgs was glad I did on this one. Of course, if it doesn't work out, some are calling for my head. And, you know what I look like!

(couldnt find a photo without the sideline guy)
