Sorry if this is an offseason thread but seeing as how the offseason will last about 5 more hours...
I know everyone thinks Sumlin gets fired but seeing as how its not uncommon for coaches to keep 1 or 2 assistants on from the previous regime. How would you rank our position coaches?
Heres what I got:
1. Jeff Banks ST/TE/Recruting Coordinator
This is the dude I wouldn't want to lose. Basically because everytime I watch Texas I thank god we don't look like that.
2. Jim Turner OL
Immediate improvement last year. Great recruiter. Great coach. Great evaluator. Those are really hard to find.
3. David Turner DT
Good recruiter. Good track record. At potentially the most important position in this conference.
4. Noel Mazzone QB
This isn't taking into account his OC duties or playcalling. Proving to be a hell of a recruiter (Rosen/Mond/Fortin/Gunnell). Doesn't need to have a DT or PP, can work with both
5. Terry Price DE
Great recruiter. OK coach. Which can work but man its hard to see talents like DaeDae and Myles play out of position so much
6. John Chavis LB
He had NO talent and LB play improved the past two years. Just not enough. Guys are no longer completely out of position, they just aren't any good.
7. Ron Cooper DB
I can't say but he can't be worse than the next two, right? Right? Oh god
8. Aaron Morehead WR
All the talent in the world, still really bad routes. It almost sounds like Christian Kirk coaches himself and the rest of the WRs.
9. Clarence McKinney RB
Sorry for reminding you that we still write checks for this guy.
Basically, I think whoever comes in should keep Banks and Jimmy T.

Why the hate on McKinney?

Moorehead is probably the worst coach in the SEC. Mckinney does give him a run for his money though

Mostly because RB coach is the closest thing to a recruiting only position. In his case, his ties to Houston area high schools suggest that he should have given us a leg up in Houston recruiting. Early on, he completely failed to make headway in the Houston area and he currently splits Houston recruiting duties with Jeff Banks. Contrast that with someone like David Beaty who was brought to do a similar thing in the Metroplex but was wildly successful in recruiting kids out of an area that the Aggies had struggled mightily with for a while.

Moorehead is in his own league when it comes to being an incompetent coach. Give McKinney all the hell you want, but at least he hasn't embarrassed the school nationally like Moorehead has.
