What is his buyout/contract look like? Would he be the type to bet on getting huge payday for performance?

The way Looch emphasized SEC understanding has me leaning towards Elko as the guy. The timing with DeBoer just does not line up and I think ultimately it will be Elko

Agree on Elko. The boosters have to fund it, he's familiar with the team, etc ... maybe too familiar to be honest.

Agree. Looch mentioned this right after the firing. They're going to be more responsible with how money is spent unless there is someone who moves the needle. Then they'll pass the hat around and find the funds. Lane doesn't strike is a guy who moves the needle for a lot of boosters.

I don't understand how Elko moves the needle, other than he "gets" A&M. Some things don't change. The best thing I can say about Elko is that he isn't Traylor
He's the safe hire.
He's the safe hire.

So if Elko is the hire how much of the staff stays on? Durkin run Elko's defense? OC choices? Can we pull the Oregon OC away from them? Lots to think about

Any chance Bobby P gets retained?

Since the arrow seems to be pointing at Elko, let's look at the job he's done at Duke. I am researching this as I type it up so I may be kind of responding to things I see as I find it.
Year: Record / Total O / Total D / Talent Level
2019: 5-7 / 114th / 56th / 44th (0-5*, 3-4*)
2020: 2-9 / 80th / 98th / 52nd (0-5*, 5-4*)
2021: 3-9 / 54th / 130th / 61st (0-5*, 1-4*)
--
2022: 9-4 / 44th / 67th / 64th (0-5*, 2-4*)
2023: 6-5 / 91st / 51st / 67th (0-5*, 2-4*)
He absolutely made an immediate impact after Cutcliffe. 9-4 (5-3) is fantastic for Duke. However, you dig a little deeper and UCF (bowl) and BC were the only halfway decent wins. Everyone else was sub .500.
This year leaves a little bit more to be desired. No shame in losing to Notre Dame, Florida St, Louisville, or even UNC this year. But the UVA loss is BAD. Zoom out a little and if they beat Pitt and finished 8-4 (4-4) is respectable for Duke.
Looking at the other #s, the defense went from dead last to solid. That is clearly Elko's strength since he was a DC. He still has his protégé in Santucci as DC along with Lyle Hemphill. He's a carry over from Cutcliffe's staff.
What struck me as concerning was the lack of talent influx he brought. Talent level stayed about the same when the new hire should be bringing energy to the program.
Composite Rankings (247)
2024 - 36th
2023 - 68th (35 commits!)
It looks like Duke was near the bottom of football in returning talent from 2022 to 2023. That semi explains the results drop off and why he needed to add 35 players to the program.
Overall, Elko hasn't done anything that screams he deserves a promotion to where A&M is right now. But he's got a very nice body of work as a DC at WF, ND, and A&M.
F+ Ratings
2023 - 24th (Duke)
2022 - 45th (Duke)
2021 - 6th (A&M)
2020 - 27th (A&M)
2019 - 18th (A&M)
2018 - 9th (ND)
2017 - 36th (WF)
I can see him coming in and having some immediate success with the defensive talent assuming it doesn't leave. What is critical is that he keeps Weigman and finds an offensive staff that can be above average. Long term I have concerns about his ability to recruit. Talent is the lifeblood of the program.

All just a guess at this point.
ERob is a must, right? Could be an issue since he has his boy Santucci. Maybe they can be Co DCs.
I would guess not retained.
This is key.
Why not? Its only money, right? I thnik I'd prefer Washington's.
Yes, Indeed.
I would say nope.

If it is Elko, his offense is worse than ours. Whether he can find an elite OC is the question that needs to be answered.
Grubb isn't leaving WA. Pretty certain that Stein isn't leaving Oregon.

ERob has to stay. Everyone else seems like they could replaced to me?

The comments on recruiting are the part I cannot figure out. Maybe Bjork is going to give ERob a shot at the job? He's can definitely recruit against the SEC's best.
Day is a recruiter but I just cannot see where he makes any sense to anyone that isn't smoking some good shite.
Dabo is a recruiter, but Dabo is mentioned in the list to recruit against.
Elko is not a good recruiter.
Maybe nobody outside of Bjork knows anything at this point. I'm still not opposed to giving the job to ERob and having him bring in an OC ... maybe I will feel different after the weekend.

You give him a Co-DC label and that sure looks nice.

Just CEO it and make sure to hire some more elite ones for the stadd.

An important piece of context this year is the QB injuries for Duke. Riley Leonard is their (very good) starter and he’s played in 7 games and was playing hurt in the later ones where he struggled, then they shut him down. I believe the backup got hurt as well so they’re down to the third string like us.
I’m iffy on an Elko hire and no doubt the OC will be a huge piece of it. We would have to knock it out of the park.

Well, starting to wonder who is left. Sounds like Bjork is locked in on his choice ... stay tuned

That brings an ulcer inducing uncertainty. Hopefully we arent caught with our meat in our hands and have to jump on the shite Traylor
