But if he permanently fricks his throwing shoulder it's a wasted pick regardless. I just don't think it's a good idea to let him play. I know plenty of other guys have done it but I wouldn't have wanted them playing football either.

I'd say the same to Russell Wilson if I was the Seahawks. You want the big $$$? Then no baseball in the offseason for you.

It's just dumb to invest money in an athlete and then let them go play something else that could hinder their career with you. Teams don't even let guys get on skateboards, motorcycles, or skis these days. Not sure why playing another sport should be any different.

You're talking about Kevin Murray here.

It’s pretty tough to “permanently frick your throwing shoulder”. There’s dudes like three Tommy Johns deep starting games in MLB tonight

They made a deal that could be mutually beneficial. This isn’t one sided

I’m not saying I would have done what they did because I don’t love the pick for the reasons I stated but I understand their logic. Unless they took a bunch of college seniors and after and are just being cheap in which it’s just dumb.

There's also the argument that he has never fully focused on baseball, and has a ton of untapped potential. And he was pretty dang good this year.

Well that is the argument for him along with his athletic ability. But that’s worth a lot more when a kid is an 18 year old high schooler vs a 21 year old. He has tons of potential but might be 24-25 when he’s finally breaking in. He will be turning 22 in August of his first year in pro baseball

His arm has regressed on the diamond and currently plays below average

from mlb.com draft profile. thought that was interesting giving him being a QB

TJ is elbow surgery. Not that your point isn't valid. I'm just saying

I know, just saying MLB teams deal with every type of arm injury at this point. It obviously wouldn’t be good but there’s risk in every pick. He’s probably a ways away from MLB regardless as far as college juniors go

I’m sure all Astros/Rangers fans on this board can agree upon wishing him nothing but failure in Oakland.

Don’t forget that OU can legally take out an insurance policy for him. I’m sure that’s part of the deal.

Just to be clear: I hope he falls on his face. I hope OU faces the same crap we went through at A&M. But they probably won’t. Murray is not a freshmen anymore, and he has a great fallback if he gets beat out. Both of those factors should improve his attitude and productivity.

You don't think OU along with the Murray family knew he was being drafted this high? I guarantee you they did. Lincoln Riley said about a week ago that Kyler was definitely playing football this year.

Oakland is going to get a top shelf talent at a discount. He will sign, but it won't be for $4.8 million. They'll get a reduced rate because of the football. Word was, he would sign for anything north of $3 mil.

So you're basing it on a statement from the head coach a week before he was drafted?

And unless OU plans to make up the difference, Kevin Murray will chose the money 100% of the time.

Please tell me that he believes he is the second coming of Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders. Please let that be true and let him try to do both sports. That would be such an epic failure to behold.
