Good hire. I am pleased.

I will hold-off on the celebratory dance until I see what he can do with the talent available to him.

I haven't commented previously because I'm still in shock, and still waiting to wake up from this dream. This is monumental. May be a bigger deal than Jackie's hire.

Clancy Pendergast looks really solid. I'm surprised he wasn't on our radar, but Sumlin probably wanted someone he knew could succeed in the SEC.

along with this keeper:

I still can't quite believe this. Best week for A&M ever? I think yes.

Not yet. Just wait for the recruiting bump that is coming. We will pick whoever we want across the country I believe.

Some dude on the Rant posted a pretty good analysis of Chief's style.

quote:

Chavis run a simple system that is easy to grasp for players. He will stop the run with numbers and try to stop the pass with speed. He will run press man but sprinkle in zone. He likes showing pressure looks more than using them. He's seen it all and can gameplan really well. He blitzes when he trusts his players and the talent. He also handles air raid very well.

Adjustments were sometimes non existent inside of games. He consistently gives up late half and late game drives for scores. He has benefitted greatly from a huge TOP advantage due to a ball control offense. He sacrifices size for speed at each position. Not bad, not good, just is a principle he works under. He will use odd man fronts at times, including 30 and 50 fronts based on down and distance as well as available manpower in order to try and keep his line fresh.

Chief is a huge disciplinarian. He is extremely well respected. By his players, the defense as a whole, the team and by his staff. He's a rock in the lockerroom. We shall see what happens there on the field, but he's a really good coach and I wish him well outsider of when we play you guys.

That's an excellent, well-ruminated summation.

This is a myth. As I posted on the rant, in 2009 LSU was 107 in TOP, and they were still 11th in scoring defense, 26th in total defense, and 18th in Football Outsiders defensive efficiency.

Here are LSU's rankings in TOP for Chavis' tenure at LSU:

2009 - 107th
2010 - 57th
2011 - 26th
2012 - 46th
2013 - 57th
2014 - 9th

The numbers don't lie. This last year was the ONLY year his defenses benefited from a "huge" TOP advantage. But his defenses have performed every year.

What are A&M's during those same years?

Will Mark Hagan be retained by Chavis? Or is he out since chief likes to work with linebackers too...

Seeing lots of tweets from uLSU side saying Haley is staying in BR. Would we continue with Price solo or go after an DT coach?

use as you see fit

quote:

Several sources told The Advocate over the past 24 hours that Miles and LSU backers attempted to “fix” the contract and keep Chavis. In the Tuesday meeting with Miles, Chavis was offered a raise to more than $1.5 million, a source said.

“It was too late,” said the source, who’s close to the coach.

quote:

Chavis will make $1.5 million in his first year at A&M.

and in other news, LSU continues to act like massive vaginas

LINK
quote:

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said Thursday that the school’s legal council has advised him that Chavis owes LSU $400,000. Chavis’ contract ran through Dec. 31, 2015.

quote:

His original contract called for a $400,000 buyout in the second-to-last year of the deal. The buyout dropped to $0 in the last year of the contract, which was originally 2014 but moved to 2015 with the one-year extension.

Apparently the contention is that he accepted in principle before Jan 1. Welp, good luck collecting that check, Joe
