58%, 3/2 TD/INT and 10.7 YPA shouldn't be considered "mediocre to poor". 10.7 YPA is elite for anybody. For a true freshman, it's absurd. For reference, Johnny was at 8.5 his Heisman yr, 9.6 his SO yr.
yes it was mediocre.
you didnt watch the games.
his WRs did most of the work on the yards and throwing below 60% in a Briles offense vs average defenses is not good.

You could definitely say he was a system qb but you have to give him huge credit for executive g almost perfectly

If he does well at OU down the road
Doubtful. He had no business even being on a D1-A collegiate football field when he "played" for us. Guy looked hysterical - like a midget in real life trying to play football, it was a joke - plus, he had no understanding of the offense and couldn't pass whatsoever.

The throw at 2:01 is miles better than anything we saw from Kyler LINK
6:30 is a perfect throw, guess those WRs should take a little blame if you're giving them most of the credit.
6:50 is a perfect deep slant
10:10 is an elite play, passing on the run after avoiding the rush

I'm not saying he completely sucks and has no talent.
I'm saying he did not play at a level that would have had the team performing much better that it did last year.
He wouldn't have changed the fact that the o-line sucked the big one or that our run D couldn't stop anyone for anything.
It still would have been an 8-5/9-4 team and BMAs still would have lost their minds over not signing Kyler.

Yeah we're both speculating. He could have been great or he could have been Kyler, who knows.
I'm just happy we don't appear to be making the same mistake twice.

No Kyler = No Daylon Mack

Highly probable scenario

Love Daylon, but I'd be willing to make that trade if it gets us Stidham. QB position matters so damn much.

Daylon Mack under Chavis
vs.
Stidham under Spavital

Firing Spav is definitely the one bell I don't want to unring.
Like with how retaining Snyder for Year 3 eventually led us Chavis, I'm willing to accept whatever had to happen to get rid of Spav.

Tell that to Alabama who keep winning championships with dominant defenses and serviceable QB play.

Was Cam the last elite qb to win a title?
Posted on 6/28/16 at 8:39 pm to Old Sarge
The only QB to win a national championship this century that could be considered elite is Cam Newton. That's it, just him. It's too early to tell on Jameis Winston right now and Leinart, Young, and Russell were great in college but were terrible in the NFL.

College =/= NFL
Cam, Jameis, Tebow, Vince, Leinart were all elite college QBs. Runner ups like Oregon, Texas, Clemson, Oklahoma all had high level QB play.
Even some of the Bama QBs have put up great #s. McCarron had a 31:3 TD:INT ratio, Blake Sims was very good under Lane. But if we start recruiting 12 4/5 star defensive players each cycle, we can settle for average QB play

Just because a QB can put up gaudy stats in college does not mean that they are elite. A subpar QB can put up ridiculous stats in college solely do to the system they're in.

No doubt. But I don't think any of those guys I listed were "system" QBs, nor do I think we have the system or supporting talent to win the SEC with average QBs.

Tim Tebow was the definition of a system QB.
