Who knows. I think people are seeing that we are in two different classes of football now and that A&M competes in the absolute toughest division in possibly CFB history.

UT will always be popular but we are equally popular in our own right at this point.

Going to have to disagree on this. A&M's marketing department went open throttle to campaign for Johnny's heisman. Teo had the whole Notre Dame love fest behind him and a dead girlfriend to boot (wasn't fake til after the ceremony), and he didn't stand a chance.

Yet they somehow dissappeared when each of Johnny's actions started being dissected by the media after winning the Heisman. I understand its hard to control the media, but to almost do nothing to put out the fire was just a terrible job.

Yes he led the charge, but how much of it was due to his work? I stand by my statement that his work was fool-proofed by the SEC, Manziel, and Sumlin. To me, he has done a good job, but not the extraordinary job many people are given him credit for.

Ummm, what exactly was he supposed to do?

You said it yourself--the media really can't be controlled. Short of chaining Johnny to his own domicile and taking over his twitter/instagram, you couldn't ask him to do much more with that, IMO.

Probably more than most of us will ever know or appreciate, tbh.

He's been blessed--I think anyone in marketing would prefer to be in his situation versus, say, trying to market the Idaho Vandals.

Folks would be quick to blame him if he did a horrible job, but since he's capitalized on a great set of circumstances, he's somehow mediocre? Sorry, I don't buy that.

Not intimating that he's solely responsible for TAMU's success, of course. Advancing a brand--especially a university brand--is a collective affair.

The best marketing helmsmen are the ones who keep the momentum churning as long as possible.

I don't fully believe in the "any publicity is good publicity" thing, but I don't see the publicity Manziel was getting last summer (aside from the autograph thing, and I think we handled that well) as bad for our image. Having our star QB out partying and everyone talking about it kept us in the spotlight and on Sportscenter while Manziel wasn't really doing anything that bad. It did get tiresome to listen to though.

Honestly, if anything it probably helped jolt the national perception of TAMU as a stodgy, by-the-book, buttoned-down school and student body. Folks talk about us being a spring break/party environment now--that was never the case in the past.

Well, the national media does love to ride every remotely interesting story into the ground, bust out a jackhammer, bury it, exhume it, and beat it some more just to be sure every last drop has been wrung from the husk of said poor story

Not nearly as bad as I expected. Pretty dog? Or just too late to catch the normal crowd? Probably the latter.

Terrible video for this purpose, I think. There's so much more they could have done.

This. The daywalkers will bring the expected poo-flinging

Agree. And again, that's coming from someone who loves the Corps. We're still trying to communicate all A&M is about to our new conference mates, some of whom we've never played in football before to this point. Rev is a terrific mascot, but there's so much more they could have and should have focused on to give a truer sense of A&M.

We may be overthinking this. 30 sec. spots:

Auburn is lots of TP. Whut?

Florida is all about the chomp. Liked it.

Georgia is a Herschel highlight. Welcome to 2014, guys.

Kentucky is... SURPRISE... all about round ball.

LSU is Mike (good) and music (horrible).

Missouri is unbelievably bad.

MSU is baseball, but I liked it better than all but you know who.

Ole Miss is The Grove, which would impress me more if I hadn't been there twice and they cooked anything or offered food to visitors.

South Carolina - Sandstorm, no surprise. Personally I don't get the attraction for that song. Guess I'll figure it out on the 28th.

Tennessee (extended) Rocky Top. Not bad.

And I like the hell out of
Alabama because of the Bear's voice. Those bastards win.

Yeah, on second thought, ours looks to be par for the course

Me either, but the cool thing is, there's no denying that it's theirs now. Just like Enter Sandman for Va.Tech.

Honestly, I'm hoping for similar instant association for us with our Power intro. Imma be pissed if they change it. It's perfect for us, IMO.

I'd probably pick Waylon Jennings singing MacArthur Park. And that may be why nobody has asked for my opinion.
