Again, based on style, not on the topic of the lyrics. Do specific styles of music often have the same lyrical topic? Yes but not always and the lyrics don’t define the genre. I think that’s an important point. People aren’t thinking “I’m only going to listen to music about pickup trucks and whiskey!” but it’s a big part of country music. There’s also country songs about relationships, sports, cities, terrorism, etc. that all country fans will listen to if the music is good.
Gospel is it’s own genre because it’s a unique style. It’s pretty much exclusively faith based lyrics but I don’t think anyone takes any issue with it because it’s a style that people appreciate on its own. Declaring Christian to be a sub genre of other types of music just comes off as pandering.
Now if you want to discuss that maybe Christian artists HAVE to be billed as Christian music because regular record labels won’t accept artists having Christian lyrics, we might find some common ground....

Wrong again.
Are you seriously going to argue that rap, Country music, and rock lyrics share the same messages and are composed about the same topics ?
Not even close

He said the lyrics don't define the genre

Not always but a lot of times, yes. How about “partying and drinking are fun?” I’d say that’s a fairly universal lyrical topic.

I've never seen a 30 foot paintbrush but it looks like you're trying hard to make one

We’re all free to define/compartmentalize music however we see fit. Let’s just leave it at that.

I HAVE DECIDED:
Pat's points were more coherently presented and buttressed. I hereby declare him the victor in this faith-infused kerfuffle.

My "I Have Decided" posts are never wrong!
They have capital letters in 'em, and stuff.

This fire situation is not getting better fast. The black star is where my family lives. They are staying with a friend/coworker in Marin close to the Golden Gate Bridge, so they are safe. The death toll has passed 20. Many have lost their homes in Santa Rosa.

Dang, That's a whole lot of real estate. Does your brother think it will be brought under control before it gets to his house?

He has no idea. I've mostly been getting updates from my sister and sister in law. Everyone is counting on lucky winds and the bravery and effectiveness of the firefighters. At this point they are trying to salvage what they can in case things get worse.
Beyond the loss of life and danger from the fire, it's also very sad what this will do to the industry. Wine takes 3 years to make. People have worked hard and put their lives into their careers, and in a short time so much damage has been done. The smoke and ash could possibly destroy the crop that doesn't get burned. I know this is nowhere near as important as peoples lives, but I've watched my brother work hard over the last 14 months and I really feel for him and others who make this industry run.

Some of the pictures out of Whine Country are just heartbreaking. It looks like a bomb went off and flattened entire neighborhoods.
