Sure but my point was that I don't see how the window is closing if it is a dead period.
In fact, I could see an argument for wanting the hire to hit RIGHT at the end of the dead period, as then kids could talk to the new OC soon after the hiring hype (if the OC is a splash).

It probably could have been beneficial to have already fire him with the replacement lined up. I don't think the dead period applies to people not on staff? Would it if the replacement was currently on a staff?
I know for sure thats what happened with Orgeron. Didn't announce the hire till after dead period.

I know this is reported often, but it doesn't mean a whole lot.

It doesn't mean everything, but I take it a a very bad sign for our prospects of signing him. Not sure what incentive he would have for signing a FAA to Bama if he has intentions of flipping.

Did any of you really expect to get him anyway?

Expected it? No.

Thought we had a chance? Sure.

He's applying at a&m as well. It's harmless to the kid to sign a FAA

It will be hard getting Hurts in this year. We didn't often utilize the Dual Threat QB we had on the roster this year and we have the #1 guy in the country committed to us next year.

BR has an article saying that Coach O will probably leave LSU and go back to USC. We need to get Chavis on some more LA prospects and LSU commits.

Most think he's just trying to work that raise from us. They're already in the process of reformulating his contract. His family lives in Baton Rouge too. I have a hard time seeing it. You never know though.

That makes absolutely no sense. He is making $450K as a defensive line coach. LSU is not going to pay $800K+ to a defensive line coach.

Yes we would. He wouldnt be getting paid just for d.line coach, he's easily in our top 2 as far as recruiting and made the biggest impact at coaching with the dline. I don't think we're going to bump him up straight to 800k all at once but if he's still on staff in 4 or 5 years time(I doubt he will be) then he'll get around there. He's already told recruits that he's staying at LSU. I don't see how he could put this much time into this class then go to USC, a lateral move, to start all over away from his family. That actually makes alot less sense.

LSU was having issues justifying the current staff pay. The school is also struggling to stay solvent and they are asking more of the athletic department to help out. $800K is also the bare min. Auburn set the market this year at $1.5M and got turned down.

As we should from the results we have been seeing. But LSU football is the big money maker for LSU so they're always going to invest alot into the program. We've had unstable academics for the past 4 or 5 years now, and nothings changed. We announced a lazy river not too long ago that the school is funding, so there is a curtain we all can't see behind.

I think this just goes to show money isn't going to make any coach jump. A lot of it has to do with fit. If it was all about the money Ed O probably would have taken that USC job, but he didn't

Don't feed the troll. Someone who thinks that Sumlin has a better hit rate on offensive linemen than Sherman is full of shite.

So Liucci put out an update today which, if you understand Looch speak, basically implied we go 0fer or close to it on big targets down the stretch.

The most negative recruiting summary in recent memory.

We had a mediocre season, no doubt we need to win our bowl and finish with 9 wins AND hire a big time OC

Recruiting will be fine if that happens
