that's surprising but I'll take it.

Right now, I'd think we'd try out Mitchell at SAM if he gets a waiver this year. It's the obvious spot that is open and it doesn't have the complexities that MLB does. It would take advantage of his athleticism without putting too much on him to start. His closing speed is unreal and he's big enough that TEs can't easily block him.

Do you know what his decision does in regards to his brother?

And he can come in and start at SAM right now

My understanding is they want to play together but they aren't a package or anything. That's one reason I'm surprised Mike is down to Tech/A&M. Neither of us are exactly looking stellar on the hardwood

I think he definitely could. He's spent a year at a top level program with good S&C. He's had some college coaching on technique and things. He wouldn't be a typical freshman. And one thing is clear, wherever he goes, he wants to play so I'd sell him on SAM and the fact that we don't know who the starter is even after spring.

But if he can't get a waiver, I won't be surprised if they start him at MLB. He'd have a year to learn the defense and be in much better shape to make calls and such. But it's probably too much to throw on a guy on day one, he has the skill set to play SAM and our situation is unsettled right now.

same. I thought it was going to be Baylor

not sure anyone really knows. Plus the NCAA makes just functionally retarded decisions at times. Brandon Williams moved to be nearer his kid. No waiver. Jalen Saunders moved away from home (Fresno to OU) because he didn't like the new offense and somehow was granted a waiver.
quote:

"Fresno State is where Jalen wanted to be since high school, but there was a change of philosophy and a change of coaching staff that he no longer felt comfortable being there anymore," Saunders' father told the Fresno Bee in April. "He's been frustrated. Jalen does not fit in their new style of ball. He felt like that even if he stuck with it, he wouldn't progress."

There's really no rhyme or reason to these decisions so you just flip a coin and hope it works out.

Lol I thought jalen Saunders got a waiver for allergies or something silly... I wonder who I'm thinking of.

yeah I think that's what they put on the waiver application. But his dad's comments are pretty clear and were made before he transferred. It was obvious bullshite.

I'm starting to think McKinney is hurting more than he's helping. Time to move on.

One 17 year old kid changes his mind and we need to fire a coach?

First, we haven't even offered. But even if we did, what's wrong with Dauphine? He's a nice looking prospect to me. Has offers from Tech, TCU, Houston and WSU - all who run a version of our offense. He's a really good fit. Don't look at ratings. Not that long ago people were questioning why we offered Merritt when he was unrated. And as it turns out he's the #1 guy on our board.

I see your point, but priority wise you would think we would visit a prospect who hasn't made up his mind yet before visiting speaking with someone who has. Maybe I'm still stewing that we lost probably the best in-state back in Anderson, but what's wrong with Chris Warren or Tyreik Gray before a guy like Dauphine (provided were just talking in state guys). Maybe they're not the type of back we covet, but you can still develop/steer a guy on that path. *shrug* Personally, I'm all in on Kirk Merritt anyway, but still.....

Dauphine is from Port Arthur. The two best in-state backs for class of '16 (Whaley and Martin) are also from the Triangle. It's pretty likely McKinney stopped in to see all of them while there and Martin is even Dauphine's teammate so it took zero extra effort.

We'll take at least one more back, but we'll likely only push to 3 if the 3rd is Merritt or Anderson. So I doubt anyone gets an offer any time soon but that doesn't mean you don't recruit them.
