Kirk is going to wait until after his senior season to make his decision

all-star game? Because for some reason I thought the timetable was the summer. I know we feel pretty good about that situation but I hate hearing he'll wait that long.

Yeah, it's never fun to wait that long on an OOS guy, even if none of the in-state schools are in his favorites. We just have to hope our QB play looks good enough for him

Hmmm, I see Perroni put out a "how A&M can finish #1" by picking 10 targets that we could close with.

1. QB Murray - heavy family ties and we've been recruiting him longest. Would be shocking to see him go elsewhere. Early summer timeframe
2. CB Sheffield - seems to really dig us but is very quiet (doesn't have twitter for instance)
3. LB Jefferson - in no hurry but as of now we're in good shape
4. WR Kirk - Oregon is who scares me but Kyle Allen is our ace in the hole
5. WR Lodge - Baylor is likely biggest comp
6. WR Siverand - pretty heavy lean
7. CB Hill - think the sips are firmly in it and maybe lead. I think we may take Elam
8. OL Dyer - he likes us but Stanford is one to watch
9. OL Weathersby - OU probably leads
10. WR Chigbu - likely won't get an LSU offer

Figured I'd post for discussion purposes

I doubt that will be a factor with Kirk. He and Kyle Allen grew up together. They are long-time friends and talk all the time. Even if we struggle at QB, he'll almost certainly overlook it.

That said, I'd be relatively shocked if we have subpar QB play. It's really not even a concern to me.

I see us landing 6/10 on that list. It would be a big blow if we got everyone except Sheffield or Malik Jefferson though.

yeah, to me Sheffield and Malik are far and away the two most important gets for us. You can find away to a top class with alternatives for just about all the rest but those two imo.

WRs - I want all of them, but we are in on so many high level prospects there it's not like things can go wrong

Hill - I'm not sure how we rank Lewis/Hill/Elam honestly but provided we get Sheffield, I'm really happy with any of the 3 for the last CB spot (also Boyd if)

OL - we need a big class but already have 2 in the house and are in on quite a few more. Both those guys are solid but not going to make or break the class esp if we got Walker, Sutherland, and were able to flip someone like Evans, Tillery, or Wariboko. I think they are on there just because they are the two most likely

If I had a choice to compliment Sheffield I'd get Boyd granted he cleans up his life in whatever mess he's in or Xavier Lewis who's known to be a physical guy at corner. Hill and Roney have good height and are quick and would be nice gets too but they are secondary, imo.

And you're right about the receivers and lineman. Kirk is a big target, but lodge is a local kid and just as good. Can't miss, indeed.

Someone more knowledgeable than I (coughtmccough) should start the 2016 thread.

Fascinating read on HS coaches views of the Mack/Strong transition: LINK

It's pretty obvious all 4 coaches they interviewed are t-shirt sips. Coach D is probably more just a fan of Mack than the sips. But for the most part, you can tell they all at least closet root for the horns.

Coach B cracked me up. Even in an anonymous survey he couldn't help but highlight what a fan he is
quote:

Re: Strong's hire, Coach B: “I was really excited. I don’t know Coach Strong."

Coach B: “I’m not a Texas grad or anything like that but I think Charlie Strong is the face of the state"

Coach B: “Following a legend is always hard."

Coach B: “I hate to say it but they are third behind A&M and Baylor.

The rest of his answers are basically defending anything the sips have done (other than the live on campus thing). Overall, you can tell Strong has his work cut out for him with HS coaches because these are guys that want him to succeed and they are still hammering him on certain things.

Interesting read, thanks for posting.

Coach D has quite an ego.

quote:

Texas is going to be Texas. They could come back right now and take over A&M if they want to. That’s how powerful they are. They can do anything they want. They are the Texas freaking Longhorns.

They were just choosing to be so terrible the past few seasons.
