I think all of the speculation comes from his parents want him to stay in Texas and we have easily done the best job at recruiting him in the state. I'm just worried about his decision date. That gives a lot of time for OU, bama, etc to get in it

It seems like Speedy with LSU, everyone is assuming he comes here because he's the most familiar with it but he hasn't really come out and said we are the big time favorite

I think we probably know where Speedy's head was a good bit of the time

I think Sheffield is ours. He plays the quiet game well

Possibly add Siverand as well and I'm sure at least one other guy.

Right now we're only planning on taking 3 WRs. Siverand, Lodge, and Kirk would pretty much be the end-all-be-all. My understanding is our coaches like Siverand more than Kirk. And that's not because they don't like Kirk.

I don't know our exact board but pretty sure we choose Siverand. Lodge is #1 overall btw. Siverand doesn't get the love in the ratings, but consider when the dead period ended, the first guy Sumlin went to see was Siverand. We fricking love that dude.

oh yea I knew we loved siverand from the start for that reason, I was just speculating if we would go to four if someone else, like chigbu, wanted to commit

And I just don't think we can take 4 WRs this year. You have to expect attrition as the position of course but we have 12 (Beatty has 14 scholarships to work with) and 11 of those return for '15.

Without attrition, Beatty would have to get some other coach to give him spots to take more than 3. Now he gave up this year so maybe he has some coming his way, but even if he did, he would have very few to give for '16. Also, we're focused on recruiting RBs that can also play slot (Anderson, Merritt). That flexibility suggests we likely won't be using more than the allotment at WR.

Kirk is visiting tOSU today and Oregon 3/15. His fam must be well off to afford all the traveling he does.

He's childhood friends with Kyle Allen. I know the Allens are pretty well off (Kyle's dad was on the Fiesta Bowl committee) so it's not too surprising.

Why in the world would a mother name her kid after a city that's only known for it's boardwalk?

Hey y'all, New guy here

Following the discussion, I agree we almost can't take more than 4 receivers this class but aside from Lodge and Siverand, there's some amazing talent we're pursuing in cajun country and there's a lot of mutual interest from Christian Kirk out west as well. I can see 6 guys potentially wearing maroon out of it (Lodge, Siverand, Derrick Dillon, Kirk Merritt, Christian Kirk, Michael Chigbu) yet we can't overload the roster either. Kirk may go Pac-12 and Tyron Johnson is on his way out of the picture apparently but I wonder how we'll handle this.... heh

welcome dead money

One thing of note - we offered and are recruiting Merritt as a RB, not a WR. He mostly plays WR for Destrahan this past year but he's one of those guys that can be multidimensional.

Burton is the worst of them imo. He's professional enough that outside observers think he's top notch. He's smart enough that he takes subtle shots at us without appearing biased and uses his national rep to do some pretty underhanded shite.

For instance a couple of years ago, he was interviewed for an article about street agents in relation to the Oregon-Lyles mess. He correctly threw out LSU and Baylor as people who paid Lylse for his services. And then he added A&M and he brought up several players that he "thought" had ties to Lyles that we were recruiting (he later fessed up on his board that he was wrong about that). This was a national article published by Yahoo Sports iirc and he was identified as a state of Texas recruiting expert for 247 sports - no mention of tu at all.

The funny thing about it was that we never directly paid Lyles. We used a service that employed him before he went out on his own. As did a number of other schools - including Texas. Yet none of those other schools were mentioned in the article, only those that paid him directly and A&M. And if it came down to brass tacks, Texas was using that service a full year after we cut ties. So why was A&M smeared in this article about street agents?

Burton is slimy as frick. He's smarter than the normal t-shirts that run their recruiting websites though which makes me despise him more. He's actually good at spinning shite to their advantage and has the pulpit to do it.

I think Burton's influence is waning, though. He doesn't have the control over the rankings in Texas for 24/7. And while perhaps in the past, people would credit his peddling "rumors" of connections between Aggie recruits and street agents like Willie Lyles (because why else would they choose A&M over UTx?), that isn't the case anymore.

He is truly a partisan hack, though.

I frequent 24/7 but I don't pay the monthly fee, often I look at both team sites to get an idea on who they target, get a little insight on their strategies since a lot of our recruits intersect naturally with ours... and u can pick up little bits of free info via posts here and there and what I gather, I don't care for Burton much either.
