While I get what you are saying randomways, my experience is that an individual's perception of programs is incredibly static. It basically stays at whatever level they were when you were in high school/college except for major meltdowns or meteoric rises. Texas was last part of the national conversation in 2009, which is before high school kids were in high school. The change in the every day fan may not be much, but the change in the high school ranks has been completed.

Each of the last two years A&M received significantly more applications than Texas from Texas HS students. And of those accepted last year, we had a higher percentage show up on campus (too early to say for this year). Sidewalk aside, this is obvious evidence that the average high school student in a vacuum (not football players), prefers A&M over Texas. And among the football population, all indications are it's even more pronounced.

I did know about the ratings thing. Increased competition/pressure aside, y'all need to erect a statue to whoever it was (do I recall correctly that it was your president?) that initiated the move to the SEC. The new branding on a national scale (and I can assure you, at least in the football-crazed SEC, TAMU wasn't really given much attention prior to the move) for your program has been incredible over the last two years. Manziel has a lot to do with it, sure, but the actual games being played are huge in terms of dividend reaped in the media.

There is that, yes. And not just in Texas. My 13 year old nephew here in NC, who has never been anywhere near Texas and is, in fact, a huge Bama fan, already knows Kevin Sumlin and Kyle Allen are and has expressed opinions/worries about TAMU's current recruiting class. He's not yet sweating, but he's getting there.

I doubt he could name a single Texas recruit.

When I lived up there 8 years ago for a project nobody knew who we were. They got us, the Horns, and Tech all confused.

some interesting quotes today from Jamal Peters

quote:

“The one offer that I’m probably waiting on right now is Texas A&M,” said the 247Composite 4-star DB. “Speedy Noil committed there, and of course Johnny Manziel played at A&M, so I think if I were to commit to A&M, I would be able to fit in because I could help the defense out.”

quote:

“I’m 100% serious about A&M,” he said. “I want them to offer. I’d like to visit to see what the campus is like. Honestly, I want to see what all schools are interested in me so I can narrow things down to a top five in the summer.”

I'm sure he does. And the current rumor on the Oregon 247 board is he really wants an offer. And on Bama's. And on Michigan's. And so on.
