Does anyone have an idea how the concept of having a run game coordinator will be implemented?
Pretty much he's been in charge of teaching/implementing a power run blocking scheme with actual blocking assignments for running plays instead of always using zone blocking for everything like we have in the past. That's most of it. He'll collaborate with Spav on the game-plan every week (doubtlessly this will be big because he's bringing in new plays for these aforementioned blocking schemes) and will have an opinion to voice during games, but Spav will have sole play-calling rights.

Yea figured as much. Pretty interesting story going into this season, especially with the potential of this OL and our two RBs.

posted this last year and it generated some good discussion. Here's this year's anonymous SEC coaches talking about conference foes

“They’re fast, high-tempo, and they really like to spread it around.”
“You could see Kyle Allen progress as the season went on. I’m not sure why he didn’t start from Day 1. Everyone was talking about Kenny Hill after that first game, but Allen was the more talented player all along. It was only a matter of time before they made the switch.”
“I really like how they used Speedy Noil. He’s a dynamic guy you can move around, do different things with. I’d try to get him as many touches as possible and I’m sure that’s what they’re planning to do, but with smaller guys like that you have to be careful not to wear them down.”
“They’ll be better on defense with John Chavis, no question. You know what you’re going to get with him. He’s been so good for so long. He’s just going to do what he does.”
“Schematically, what you’ve seen from LSU the last decade is what you’re going to start seeing from A&M.”
“They probably have the most talented defensive player in our league in Myles Garrett. He’s the one guy for sure that you know you’re going to have to give your tackles help with. He’s phenomenal. He was hard to block as a freshman, so what he’s going to be in Year 2 is pretty scary. He’s not real physical against the run but as a pass rusher he’s the best in our league — and it’s not even close. He can really change a game by being that kind of player alone.”
“They lost a lot in the secondary and have some guys back in the middle, but I’m not sure how elite they really are.”

Not according to Ole Miss fans

Oh no, don't tell LSU fans! 3rd and Chavis is a fat alzy non-recruting defensive coaching failure according to people who think Kevin Steele is a good DC.
What they and no one else in the SEC seems to grasp is that Chavis doesn't even have to come close to what he did at LSU for A&M to be just nasty. If he got us to #70 overall, we'd be playing for an SEC Championship.

I don't think #70 would do it, but moderate improvement would probably mean a couple more W's. In '12 we were in the 50's, and missed the SECCG.

Why are we starting camp later than other schools?

I wonder the same thing. I was pumped and drooling for camp notes this week. When Monday rolled around and I realized it didn't start til next week I was bummed.

Every team has the same amount of practice time allotted by the NCAA. Teams can schedule it however they want. We are starting a week later, but we will either have more two-a-days or more consistent practices every day as opposed to many teams which players a given number of days off a week or take off several days before the first game.

Thanks for the info. Honestly had no idea that's how it goes down. Just assumed once you hit a certain date all teams practice up until the first game.
