We actually return a good amount of talent that's had game experience (largely due to rotation to combat injuries) but not many guys who were "Keystone" contributors from last year other than maybe like Jennings/Tuttle(barring injury)/DKjr.

Yeah this will be a pretty rough year on the talent side.

However, I hope the new assistant coach hires can help actually develop some players.

We are still loaded with talent even with our guys heading to the draft. Somebody did a similar thread to this on Volquest a while back with some useful information. I believe that right at close to over half of the roster is still made up of 4 and 5 star players. You have to think, there was a time when Kamara, Dobbs, Barnett, Malone, JRM were all unknowns too. I think we're going to be just fine from a personnel perspective.

I'm more curious to see if Butch can get out of his own way or if he leaves the next guy a bunch of talent.

CBS came out with an article today that had UT 11th in the country in overall roster talent for 2017.

Gotta go ahead and assume Tuttle lasts only 2 games. People are underestimating his injury situation imo

Georgia Tech will chop block the shite out of us so I fully expect 2 season ending injuries in the first game. Nothing more Vol than Tuttle to work his arse off and make it back and then suffer the chop block.

Tuttle should not play in that game. It's Mickey Mouse one of our recent idiot ADs scheduled this game to begin with. Not much to gain, everything to lose. It's gonna be an irritating game to watch and we are gonna look like shite against them.

Yep. I've been saying this since I found out we scheduled that joke of a program.

They will eat us alive with the triple option. Write it down

Disagree with that. They will be playing a first time starter at QB, and I like Shoops chances of having an entire offseason to game plan against the triple option.

I tend to agree with this, I'm a lot more optimistic than most for next season when it comes to defensive production (assuming we don't have the same issue with injuries) it's the offense that I'm really 50/50 on.

On paper, this year's team will be slightly more talented than last year's. I think people forget that Dobbs' class was the first CBJ class and the lowest rated he's had. Now, whether that translates to the right players at the right spots is anyone's guess. I think defense will be fine but it will be difficult to replace Barnett's production. Offense depends a great deal on the next QB but I think we're ok at RB and although we lose Malone at WR we have Jennings at WR. Last year we weren't certain we'd get any real production at WR (I think all of us were banking on PWilly stepping up and we know how that worked out).
