History lesson. During French colonization efforts in Canada the King (Louis XIV if I remember correctly) hired and paid for hundreds of French prostitutes to go to Quebec and Acadia in Canada. The intention was for them to marry colonists and start making self sustaining communities.
Well after the French got beaten in the Seven Year’s War/French and Indian War that territory changed hands to Great Britain. Acadia was more sparsely populated so the Brits decided to kick them out so their Frenchness would be removed. They sailed south down past the 13 colonies and settled down in the swamplands of Louisiana far from the more genteel society in New Orleans at the time. Well these Acadians started developing the quintessential accent as they morphed into Cajuns. Acadians —-> Cajuns
