So in other words, yall have no excuse for being so horrible while you were in the Big12?

Coaching.

R.C. Slocum wouldn't begin recruiting until December.

Dennis Franchione never recruited depth in the trenches and ruined two of the best quarterbacks to ever play HS football in Texas by changing his offense to a zone read in 2005 and a pure option in 2006.

Mike Sherman had the right idea but was a HORRIBLE gameday coach.

Yeah coaching and the monumental task of the machine pushing us 2 steps back for every 1 step forward.

There was a lot of underhanded things going on in this state when it came to where kids ended up. I saw it first hand on three seperate occasions with guys I played with in high school and have seen it with 2 friends kids in more recent history. Not an excuse just pointing out what I saw is all.

Could leave it at that. When you have a head coach that says he doesn't know why people get so upset about losing because it happens to half the teams every week...

Yeah Sumlin has helped but getting away from the Big 12-2+2-2 and joining the SEC has really done more to shut that shite down than anything.

Our problem was complacence.

It was bigger than one coach or a couple recruiting classes.

Slocum dominated the SWC from '85-'95. The Big 12 started and we were still the team to beat, but Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, and Mike Leach came in and changed the game before we even knew what had happened.

Mack started offering guys a year before signing day and capitalized off the momentum of Ricky Williams winning the Heisman his first year. He would lock down half of the elite guys in the state before Slocum even knew who they were.

Stoops came in and won a natty within 2 years with Blake's players. OU had underachieved big time and was being blown out in the early years of the Big 12. Nobody was ready for that. He started kicking arse and invading the state for recruits.

Mike Leach brought a new offense that nobody had ever seen before. It couldn't be stopped with the slow, fat linemen we'd brought in and Slocum never adapted. While the rise of OU and Texas led to Slocum's downfall, it was actually Leach who got Slocum fired.

We followed that up with a "home-run" hire in Franchione who had succeeded everywhere he'd been. He was horrible, but so was the situation. Another terrible coaching hire in Sherman has left us where we are. Our roster still hasn't recovered.

The bottom line is that our world got rocked when we were on the top of the Texas mountain and we were too dense to realize it. We were still beating Texas, OU, and Tech while all these changes were happening, so that made us naive to the impact it would have.

All HC contracts should provide that uttering such bullshite is cause for immediate dismissal and voiding any buyout or future obligation.

Franchione's was FAR worse.

After getting demolished by Miami in 2007 on national TV, Fran was quoted as saying "The PRESEASON is over".
