Summer Camps at a lot of places are where a bunch of developmental guys are sorted out. Some get offers while most don't. That was this passed weekend for MS State.

You won't see a bunch of 4 & 5 star guys discovered at these camps but once in awhile a 5 star like Chris Jones from Houston, MS & now Kansas City does pop up. That guy didn't jump out this year for State that I know about but several got offers. Coming out of camp, if they get an offer they are usually pretty good and at least have the athleticism to play in the SEC.

Before the days of the Portal, State would come back around and offer some of them later if we missed on guys. Now that the Portal is here, if you don't get an offer now you probably won't without some heroic Senior Season. The portal is just too much of a thing now.

No worries, State has a couple commits from camp. One unrated and the other a low 3 star. This is where State has to hit. One of these guys is a 6’4” safety and the other a 6’ 3 safety. Both around 200lbs in 4.5 range. Raw, and need developing but with SEC athleticism. They will not help the star rating but could be absolute beast in a year or three. This is why these camps are huge for programs like State. These guys must help.

Teams can find some gems. Jaylen Foster was a walk on for us that became an all american. DJ Swag was a 3 star. For school like us we have to hit on those but we can

3rd commit from States camp. None of these guys will move the needle on the recruiting rankings but:

3 DBs. 6’ 2 6’3 and 6’ 3 guys that can run… 2 need weight, these are SEC athletes that need development but guys that could be as good as any. This what State has to do and hit. I expect one more from this camp. All could play

These are some big DBs … when you run 3-3-5 DBs have to tackle

These guys haven't been evaluated for a ranking yet, so it's too early to know where they'll end up. They will get more offers if they continue taking visits. The one's who are locked in the most with State may not get a ranking from all three recruiting sites. Happened in last year's class. The kid from Clarksdale is a stud and the other two are SEC quality.

Leach is using the good ole Diamond miner method like Mullen used to use with Mississippi kids.

If they offer during camp or shortly after, I am great with it because those guys are usually worthy. It’s the guys the take late when we miss on better targets that used to be the biggest misses.

I think Leach seems to have better back up options, especially when you consider the portal. He will take 18-22 HS and the rest portal, where before we finished with project players.
