8 may not make it out of 21
WTF who is your recruiting coordinator? Taking that many academic risks?

That is embarrassing. Not quite as embarrassing as losing to Ga. Southern, so let's get that out of the way first. Nonetheless, that is terrible SCe fans.

Seems like Spurrier has been more inclined to take the academic at-risk prospects than most since the change in signing limits. At least I remember them having a few a couple cycles ago

I guess what I am getting at is, if you take 21 and 8 don't qualify, they should have over signed. Would have to process some kids, but they are practically putting themselves on probation if those kids don't make it in.

Especially since they're at positions of need. They need CBs and DEs badly

Jhaustin Thomas was the real shocker and disappointment.
We knew Sawyer and Wideman were probably not gonna make it. Ritchie was a project regardless.
Knew Smalls was gonna have some trouble. Didn't expect to hear Green and Lammons have trouble, but from what I understand they are just waiting to be cleared by the NCAA.

That usually means Prep school time. That's what happened for UGA with Leonard Floyd, John Atkins, and Rico Johnson in the last few classes. They get flagged by Clearinghouse, the NCAA takes forever to process it, and time runs out so they have to enroll in prep school or nowhere, even if they would have eventually been cleared.
I know nothing about Green or Lammons' case, but a lot of times online courses get flagged.
ETA: or if grades/scores improve too much too quickly. If a guy's been rocking a 1.6 all through HS and then pulls a 3.8 as a senior, the NCAA will flag it to investigate.

Sawyer will be here in Jan. They already knew about him. Wideman is taking an extra placement class to get in. If not he's going to prep school so its just like a RS year. Same goes with Lammons and Green. One of the two will get in. The worst case sceneriao will be prep. It'll only hurt for one year but it also helps the 2015. class get a high ranking.

You're not really much of a realist, are you?
We had limited numbers to give, plus less need at some areas than others because we were so young last season.
We're not entirely dependent upon freshmen, as some other programs might be. Therefore, I doubt there is anything Jesus would find particularly terrible about it UMR.

I'd rather them be waiting to be cleared by the NCAA than still trying to get a test score at this point.

So of those 8, 3 are known to not make it in with their class: Sawyer, who was known very early on and is already attending JUCO at East Miss JC; Thomas, who probably won't ever wear Garnet & Black - we recruited him initially out of HS, and stuck with him even through JUCO, but he just couldn't focus on his grades; and Kalan Ritchie, who is now at GA Military JC...
4 more are still waiting on test scores: Green, Lammons, and Smalls had to re-test and should know within 2-3 weeks, and Wideman is awaiting his test score result and should know in about a week...
the 8th is Joe Blue, and reports are that he's been cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse, but now needs to await the USC admissions...

That's quite the miss. Having an 8 man shortage on your team is big

It won't be 8. Probably 5. Even so, it's a frick up. Don't know why out fanbase is so sanguine a/b missing on academic risks at positions of need right when we're coming off scholarship restrictions.

Joe BLue's HS coach just confirmed that Blue passed through the clearinghouse, he's good to go and will be at SC in a couple weeks.

Not sure sanguine is the right word that would apply here.
More like "wait and see," or "don't panic."
Personally, IMHO, it's better to trust the coaches to have this under control than for our fan base to overreact without knowing the full story.
We knew there would be some close calls in this class going-in and apparently it was a risk the coaches, as a committee, were willing to take.
As far as "positions of need" are concerned ... there is CB and that's it IMHO. We're very solid everywhere else, agreed? And at CB we may have one fail to qualify. We had others enroll early so again I'm not sure why all the panic.
Could it be because of all the trolling from other fan bases?
We were the youngest team in the country two years ago, the youngest Top Ten team in the country last season ... a lot of people got a lot of playing time.
These freshmen really are not that critical for our success in the overall scheme of things. The 2015 class, on the other hand, IS very critical to our continued success. We appear to be getting that right in a big way.
One last thing.

Yeah...our 2014 class was the highest average star rated class under Spurrier, but I started downgrading it once it became clear that Sawyer and Thomas weren't going to make it in. We all already knew Wideman had some grade issues even before he decommitted from FSU and chose USC.
The ones that caught me by surprise were Ritchie and Smalls, then news that Green and Lammons had issues. That definitely disappointed me, and will especially if the DBs don't make it in.
But we don't know the issues behind the test scores, so until we get a final answer, they just may get OK'd by the NCAA on re-test, and then it's as if nothing ever happened, or they don't pass further inspection and then we REALLY have a meltdown. I had read or heard nothing about Green or Lammons until only a week or so ago, and until then thought they were fine on academics. We'll see.....
I hope Blue getting passing grades is a good sign for the others, even though I know they are all separate cases...
