SCAR gets commit and signature from Lance Thompson.

Now, I admit, this normally isn't SEC Recruiting board material but I gotta ask you ...

If your staff was signing the top recruiters in the country, right and left, faster than you can keep up with them ... wouldn't you be sitting back and thinking, OH $#!+ check out what Boom is doing with this staff! I may have to get excited about this guy. These guys can recruit!

SCAR signs former recruiter of the year Lance Thompson

quote:

Will Muschamp is building quite the staff in Columbia. Today, he added Lance Thompson, who served under him at Auburn last season, as linebackers coach. Thompson made things official on Twitter this afternoon.

Thompson is an SEC veteran, with three stints at Alabama, as well as Tennessee and LSU. He has also coached at Georgia Tech and UCF. In 2008, he was named National Recruiter of the Year by Rivals. He is the third coach on the new USC staff to win one of those awards, along with Bryan McClendon (B-Mac) and Travaris Robinson (T-Rob).

AUBURN – Lance Thompson is joining Will Muschamp’s new staff at South Carolina.

Thompson, who just put the finishing touches on arguably the most dominant defensive performances by an Auburn team since Gus Malzahn took over as head coach in 2013, announced Thursday afternoon on his Twitter page that he had agreed to become the defensive line coach/assistant head coach at South Carolina.

“A new day !!!!,” Thompson tweeted Thursday. “Celebrating at Billy's in Newport Beach. #Go Gamecocks!”

Thompson was ranked the No. 1 recruiter in the nation on the ESPN recruiting power rankings in 2014 when he was coaching at Alabama and was named Rivals National Recruiter of the Year in 2008.

With Thompson’s departure, Auburn has two full-time assistant coaching staff vacancies and the Tigers program has now had four members of its staff (Muschamp, Thompson, Travaris Robinson and Bobby Bentley) move to South Carolina’s program.

Is that like signing three 5* players, sorta, in the same class?

Three national recruiters of the year on the same staff PLUS mUSChamp who is a helluva recruiter in his own right.

I dunno, just sayin'.

Now, if they can only coach.

Thank you for your time and attention BTW.

I probably shouldn't be as upbeat about this as I am ... but for some reason, I am. We'll see how this pans-out as signing day nears. How it pans-out come next fall and how it pans-out in future signing classes ... AND, how long this staff stays together.

This is getting a little sad. Celebrating this much over a journeyman assistant coach who is looking to leave for the next opportunity. And while not really producing much.

Roper is a question mark also, these guys can recruit though. It's still Columbia, but I expect the Gamecocks to possibly pull in a top 15 class in 2017. With all the retirement talk surrounding Spurrier the last few recruiting really dropped like he mentioned in his farewell presser.

Wasn't this Kiffin's strategy at UT? Hire all these "great" recruiters to attempt to snatch up pipelines from other schools.

Where they are means as much as who they are. Muschamp will need all the help he can get, and he got guys who can get his foot in the door in GA, AL, and FL.

May not be able to snatch the top guys, but there is depth in those states...

mUSChamp has to make SC his priority, but he absolutely must pull quality talent out of NC, FL and GA, then fill with VA, DC and Maryland.

This staff will be able to do that.

Then they have to coach'em up.

I'm not worried about that happening with the defense. But the jury is still out on whether they'll be able to do it on offense.
