That could be very plausible or Ole Miss is vastly overplaying its hand here much like A&M. It’s a huge risk/reward for Ole Miss. If it pays off it will be a game changer and every other team will copy it in the future further resetting the market for one year mercenaries or Kiffin is going to look like a fool, overpaying players that are just going to leave in a year which also will reset the market on the value of one year mercenaries. Either way, Kiffin will be a trend setter. For all of his flaws, he is very shrewd

It is for everybody. This is the world we live in.

If you get a HS player, he has you over a barrel for 3 years. He can go into the portal and ask for more money.

If you get a player that has has years of eligibility, you lock them in until they graduate.

Grad transfers and 1 year players are risky, but Lane spent a lot of time talking this year about the 2022 season and their mistakes with the type of personalities they took in the portal. He spoke a lot about the type of kid he wants and building a culture even though you have a lot of new faces.

This isn't new or willy nilly just throwing money around getting players. This was the plan from the start. He had a budget and is using it.

We even let some pretty good HS kids go because they asked for more money, and Land decided the money would have more value in the portal than on those kids and let them walk.

Lane has NFL free agency experience and this is a weird wild west version of that.

I agree but in the NFL teams are making money directly. They don’t have to share money with the university and can pay players directly. The college model is unsustainable

I don't disagree at all. Even Lane said the system is broken. But you are falling behind if you don't play the game just because you think is broken. These are the rules to play by, Lane is going to play by those rules until they are changed.

I don’t think they will change them because they are powerless to do so. They are banking on the system collapsing on itself and then proclaim they had no choice but to “fix” it. It may be a decade from now before it happens
