The highlight reel of that Florida State kid a few years ago comes to mind. Looked all-world and then nothing. But the right coaching and environment and at least there will be a chance to squeeze that talent out of them and get them to the next level.

I know you aren't actually comparing him to Jeff Luc? Dude looks like a statue the way he runs. No fluidity. No flexibility. He had bust written all over him when he came out.

Riiiight. Which explains why none of the recruiting services rated him highly and none of the major programs recruited him. I don't remember too many people predicting him to be a bust 3 years ago.

Plenty of people did. He always played stiff. That was his main knock. Just because you want to try to spin this to your case, doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.
Why does no one bring up the higher rated, 5*, that FSU signed that year instead? Seems like he's doing pretty good for himself...

I guess we just remember things differently then. You remember people predicting him to be a bust, I remember people drooling over his film and asking wondering whether or not he was going to kill someone on the field in the college.
Besides, I don't see how it really makes a difference since people have been predicting RF will bust too because of durability, character flaws, poor coaching, etc... Doesn't mean he will bust, just means he has even more in common with Luc

Alabama sends them to the NFL like an assembly line and Auburn doesn't.

And Auburn fans said the same thing about Brent Calloway after he flipped back to Bama. Looks like they might be right.

quote:Yet we haven't had a linebacker recruit like Reuben Foster since Tray Blackmon, and he left early because he needed money after an injury plagued Junior season. Even he wasn't as big of a freak as Reuben Foster. Blackmon was maybe 5'11 220 pounds compared to 6'2 255. In fact, Reuben Foster, Kris Frost, Trey Johnson, and Cassonova McKinzy are the best linebackers we've recruited under Gene Chizik, and they're all either freshmen or High School seniors.
Alabama sends them to the NFL like an assembly line and Auburn doesn't.
Jake Holland sucks, Rahrah White had to stop playing due to spinal cord issues (could've been draftable), Daren Bates was a 2 star safety and an undersized linebacker, Jessel Curry was a cocky little prick that wasn't very good and still thought he should start over Josh Bynes, and LaDarius Owens switched to defensive end.
Of course, it was very expected to see the spin from future All-American to bust with the simple switch of commitment. So predictable.

You know, except for the fact that he is easily twice the prospect Luc was coming out of HS.
It's amazing how he was considered the best LB coming out of HS in the past decade only a few short months ago. Now he is being compared to Jeff "The Robot" Luc who can't even wipe his own arse.

Is Foster rated higher than Luc was? Absolutely. Is it a huge difference? Nope. Foster's composite ranking is .9997. Luc's was .9851
In fact, I remember at least a couple of Auburn fans on this board who perked up quite a bit when they heard Luc was transferring from FSU because they thought Auburn might have a shot at him. But keep telling yourself that Luc was some scrub recruit that no one wanted. And the reason they're being compared is because they both had unbelievable film. You'd be hard pressed to find a LB with better film than either of them in the last 5 years. Again, doesn't mean that Foster will bust, just shows that great high school film doesn't guarentee success at the next level.

Luc I think eneded up transferring to Cincinnati to play.
Does Foster come in and start immediatly for Auburn next year? If so, they will have a young but very talented LB core for 2013. How do the Auburn fans feel about a starting LB core of Foster,McKinzy and Frost for 2013? Too much youth on the field? I say let the kids play...especially if they have no problem picking up the advanced schemes in college.
Never really seen any coverage abilities looking at Fosters film...how does he look in that area from those that have attended his games?

It had nothing to do with his talent. I think he would start at Alabama next year. It has to do with the structure around him. I just don't think Auburn coaches will keep him in line and develop him.

There not really comparable,IIRC Luc wasn't nearly as tall as Foster and maxed out in high school. Foster's ceiling is much higher.
Lot of butthurt in here.
