Of course this thread devolved into a shitshow
Patrick Lewis was outstanding at A&M and is the starting center for the Seahawks now. Donovan Wilson has been excellent. Jonathan Stewart and Deshazor Everett were solid contributors. That's just off the top of my head. If we're taking a 3 star type kid I would rather they be from East TX or LA, they seem to have a different physicality and fire to them overall.
I'm not going to get into comparing and Akers is a beast, but I do think Etienne is underrated by the services.

Considering LSU is all in on Akers I'm not surprised.
You brought up Akers. Not us.
We were talking about our recruit, Etienne. I am very glad we have him committed. And most of the guys we have recruited out of Louisiana have shown up to play.

I brought it up because that's likely why he doesn't have an offer.
You guys are the ones who compared him to Akers.

Melting over a recruit LSU didn't want?
Sounds plausible...

Those guys were/are both great athletes. Need to focus on staying out of trouble, but so did many players in your LSU program.
Jeremy Hill?
Anthony Jennings?
Maquedius Bain?
Dwayne Thomas?
Honey Badger?
Sione Teuhema?
Rashard Robinson?
Trey Lealaimatafao?
There was even a rumor that LA players beat up TX signee Hanner Shipley, so he transferred, but they probably put that to a team vote. Suspend a bunch of LSU players or get rid of the TX kid.

Why would LSU want to get rid of the Texas kid, LSU is full of 4 and 5-star studs they cherry picked out of Texas?

ESPN just bumped him to a 4*. He is the #12 RB in the nation!

Love the commit but it's a bummer about Carter.
I think Etienne is better. Good pickup Aggies

He may be. I haven't followed recruiting near as close as I once did. I really liked Carter though.

Toneil Carter is ranked 11th by ESPN and ranked even higher than Etienne on most other sites, but he was not ready to commit until his birthday in October. A&M needs positive momentum in recruiting and it generated some over the last 2 weeks.

Everyone high on Etienne should watch how he fares in the first game of the season. He faces a 2a team at home. A d1 running back should have 250 yards and a few touchdowns in this match up.

He averaged 12 yards a carry and a TD every 6 rushes. I don't know how many games he played, but I am sure he had a few on his was to almost 3000 yards.

He had 3000 yards last season, getting yards is not an issue. Especially playing scrubs all season.

So one game will tell us what we need to know about a prospect?

Level of competition matters.

Just saw Breaux is 4A. Had a decent defense last year and only went 5-5 (2-2 in district).
No doubt, competition matters. That's not my point.
In Texas, the jump from 3A(~500+ campus) to 4A(~900+ campus) is significant. Not sure how it is in LA but I doubt it's much difference in # of available talent.
I also don't know what Jennings HS returns on the OL, if they have a QB or WR's or if they are purely one-dimensional and will rely on the run game.
So with all that, I still think your point on the first game of the season, and Etienne game-stats, will show anyone exactly what he is. If he balls out, it's probably good for his prospective abilities. If he doesn't, it could be for a number of other reasons.
Is LA football that competitive from one class to the next? In most cases, the TX 4A team beats the 3A team probably 85% or so, if I had a guess. And that would probably be a 14+ point differential.

So if level of competition matters then why should I give a shite how he does vs 2a?
