Guy from 24/7 (barton simmons or some such)on chuck and chernoff here in atlanta said our coaching staff went all in on 4 and 5 stars but we are in second for most of the guys and he thinks we come up short on most and will be dissapointed...but really do these guys know anything?

They seriously know about as much as anybody else as to what the frick these kids will do tomorrow. They know NOTHING.

IMO, there's no way AU misses out on all of those 4-5 stars, especially when your coaching staff went "All In" for them. Keep your hopes up.

They don't have any inside info on the decisions. Honestly, each team's homesite's mod probably knows more about their respective team's targets. I think we'll be fine. Our coaches wouldn't be sitting on their arse if they thought we weren't going to get our fair share. You'd be seeing alot more offers to backups recently, and Adams is really our only one so far

What most don't realize is that we don't need a huge class this year, so our coaches are shooting for the stars.

I definitely didn't realize that. I assumed since that article came out yesterday that 43% of the kids in your last two classes are no longer on the team that you DID need a full class.

Do you have that many SRs & RsJRs to make up the difference?

We're only graduating something like 13 next year, so even with where we're at now we'll get to start processing people

1. Numbers were misleading in that article.
2. That isn't what the article said. We have 100% still on the team from our last class.
3. We have plenty of room this year under the 85, but have very few seniors, so if we sign 25 this year, we won't have very many spots available next year. As such, it appears the coaches would rather sign some big dogs or keep the spots available to sign some next year.

I don't know how true that is, but it has become the company line.

don't believe the bullshite... we'll be at around 62 scholarships for spring, not including Corey Grant... we'll be at or around 85 number this fall.

19 guys from 2010 class are still on campus, and 24 from 2011.

FINALLY! When that happens, I can tell TiM to go to hell once and for all.

I get so sick of his constant bitchin about Saban oversigning and processing bullshite.

I'll disagree with you here. I'm not saying whoever was right about AU missing out on their 4 & 5 star targets, but I am saying these guys have inside info.

There are often times when they've been told of a decision by a recruit and keep quiet before the kids announcement. There were times in the past when they would know every destination of kids before they made their predictions. The would miss one or two on purpose. They gained credibility by being "nearly perfect" when in fact they knew all along. They make money by being right, not wrong.

25 out of 59 players.
Means 34 are still on the team from the 2009 & 2010 classes.
Plus 26 from the 2011 class (24 new signees plus Corey Grant & Mike Blakely).
Means that their are 25 opening's in the 85 minus any players still on the team from the 2008 class. With Trotter giving up college ball, that leaves only TBell still on scholarship.

So there are 24 openings in the 85.

Right. And you are currently at 15 or 16 commits, right? That's why I was saying I was under the impression you were planning to sign a full class - b/c you pretty much can.

the last two+ months, Chizik and the staff have locked up information like we're hiding CIA Secrets... no one -- including AU insiders or otherwise -- had a clue on the VanGorder and Loeffler hires... (i've got a theory this all stems from the Cam Newton situation but that's a topic for another thread).

I'm not saying AUs signing every big name we're after tomorrow, but if we're sitting better than some think, you won't know about it from so called Auburn "insiders".

JMO.

We can, but we won't lose many players next year, so we probably wouldn't be able to sign a full 2013 class unless we have major attrition. The 2013 class is very good, so our coaches would rather get as many as they can next year

If we do that, though, and if we have zero attrition + no one leaving for the draft, we'd only be able to sign 13 next year.

Plus, even though we're at 15, you gotta think the coaches are pretty confident about getting at least 4-5 guys, putting us up to 20ish. That would put us at being able to sign 17 next year using the aforementioned extreme scenario.
