I was actually one of the ones not very happy with the hire. A lot of AU fans expected a home run hire. I think being told that money was no object when it came to finding a coach contributed to the disappointment as well. That being said I'm happy Chizik is the coach, but I'm expecting a lot out of him. We've done really well recruiting the past few years, and I expect to see better results that 8-5 9-3.

no shite. I can't recall the last time we threw a quick slant, much less completed one. I would much rather be completing passes to guys in full stride than throwing bubbles screens to guys with no momentum.
Same here. Slant must not be in Gus' system. I think we thre a couple to Stone Hands Trott in 2009.
Things went bad for Gus last season, and it was like he did not know how to handle it. Very odd to see compared to the year before.

We have done ok. The issue we have is when Chizik came in we need help an depth at LB and OL. Those are the two areas in which Chizik has busted the hardest in recruiting.
Holland is the only LB left from the 2010 class. Mack and Slade are the only 2 OL left from 2010.

I agree. We have had way too many projects at LB. I'm glad to see we finally have a true LB prospect in Foster and not a guy that's gonna need a couple of years to learn to play LB.
Gus was completely lost from the second half of the Clemson game until the bowl game. It could be the result of Chizik trying compensate for the abysmal defense last year too. I dunno

Opelika is only AU's backyard geographically. By the mindset there it might as well be Little Tuscaloosa. Hugh concentration of Gumps that resent the fact they exist because of Auburn University.
100% correct.

Well, we all know Alabama isn't recruiting Dee Liner anymore, because he doesn't recruit "thugs". You can have Cameron Toney I guess, but I don't see Saban flipping anyone important.
Signed,
Thugs named Trent Richardson, Dre Kirkpatrick, Rolando McClain, Brent Calloway, and Mark Barron

What did Richardson do?
Not cool about Jones either. Could be a case of just a pissed off father.

That theory would probably hold more water if Corey Grant hadn't been the first OHS player to sign with Alabama in over 40 years.
That being said, there's definitely two sides of Opelika, the middle-to-upper class that generally has ties to the university, and the lower class that generally has ties to government welfare checks.

Callaway was a bama commit first, we should have never had a chance with Cyrus, it's amazing we got him to commit.

That doesn't change the fact that he lied to police and got arrested for it.

quote:Not when he flipped we didn't. We knew as soon as Gus announced he was leaving we might be in trouble with a couple of recruits and he was one of them. I don't blame the guy really. He was going to be an early enrollee and wouldn't have a clue when he got to campus even what style of offense Auburn would be running, let alone the coach. I think if I were in his shoes, and didn't have a real allegiance to either, I would've made the same decision...I think Bama is going to work out well for him too.
AU fans thought Yeldon was solid last year too
