Auburn fans on the Auburn board will tell you that we have some pessimistic writers. Jeff Lee and Phillip Marshall are both gone, leaving guys like Jay Tate, Justin Hoke, Bryan Matthews, Keith Niebuhr, Allie Davidson, and Austin Penny. The most optimistic is Austin Penny, as he grew up an Auburn fan. The others rarely sunshine pump Auburn, though, like what happened with the guys that are no longer there.

If you really think this happens to AU and not Bama when having common recruits, then you can't be helped.

I don't remember ever saying that, but OK.

I don't know of him doing any recruiting in favor of Auburn until he flipped.
I know that Rashaan Evans mentioned back in October or November in an interview that the AU commits (he named a few commits and grouped Stephen Roberts in that category) were trying to get him to commit to AU.

It's definitely possible that he did, I just never read or heard of it happening. I do know that he was at almost every Auburn home game, so, again, the chance is there.

Pretty sure you mentioned all these players that played AU, but when Roberts was mentioned, you brushed it off. I'm sure your sources will say that Roberts mentioning how they do things at Bama had nothing to do with recruiting for AU. He wasn't trying to flip a certain couple of commits, I'm sure of it.
Or was it Bessent? So many, I can't keep track.

but when Roberts was mentioned, you brushed it off.
And I've never said that a future Auburn commit/signee/player never played Alabama.

Shaun Dion Hamilton was mulling over his options and couldn't make up his mind on whether or not he wanted to flip to Auburn, and the staff grew tired of the games and stopped recruiting him (not saying he would have flipped)
Still don't think that is what happened. I think what happened is that SDH told AU he wasn't coming, and AU was upset that he wasn't coming and put the spin on the news. It's not like you had an EE linebacker that was waiting on SDH to make up his mind. Your staff could have waited another month for his decision if he was wavering.
Telling him that he had to make up his mind at that moment or else sounds like a pretty stupid move by the AU staff. I think Gus is smarter than that. If SDH was an NSD signee, I could see telling him to make up his mind sooner rather than later so you aren't left holding his scholarship. With him being an EE your staff would have had ample time to find a replacement.

You did brush it off. You only hear what you want from AU people and act like Roberts didn't do anything because you didn't hear about it. You think AU fans or writers are going to tell you these things?
Posted on 2/22/14 at 9:38 pm to chattabama
Not what their sources told them chatta.

The only thing weird about that is Shaun Dion Hamilton coming to Auburn so much before, and he kept coming again even after whatever happened, happened.
And since he was an early enrollee, the Auburn staff may have wanted him to go ahead and make it official so they could start deciding on what would go on with the rest of the class.

Maybe I have my timeline wrong, but didn't the conversation happen right after the Iron Bowl? If so, I don't think he visited AU after the IB, but I could be wrong.

He came to an Auburn game after it happened, I know for sure, because we (on the Auburn board) were wondering why he was even there. We were scared he was recruiting in favor of Alabama and we had no idea what his reason for being there was. I don't even know if he was around other recruits at the time. And I don't know what game it was.

Really want to go down this road?

How early would that have been? I know Nov. 23 weekend he was on his Bama OV. I just don't think that it would be smart from Gus's perspective to give a kid an ultimatum that early in the process. Again, I can understand doing that in January as time is running out. But early November? Sorry, I don't buy it.
Besides, who else was on your radar as a linebacker at that time? I know Raekwon McMillan, but that was a slim to nothing chance (as it was with Bama and him.)

I want to say he was at the SEC Championship Game.

Not really, it's a road of no return.
