A blue chipper is a kid that can go to pretty much any school he chooses.

So if there are 32 picks in the First round of the NFL draft, I would rate the top 32 5 star players.
So basically what you are saying is the 247sports 5 stars

That's kind of how I feel. If you have offers from schools like USC, OSU, UF, FSU, Bama, Texas etc. then you're a blue chipper.

A guy that performs at a high level. I don't really pay attention to the rankings so much. Yes they matter but if you have good depth and blue chip guys combined with that depth it's the key for success IMO. That's how you build something special. I don't care what people say it's really about the right mix of players on your team. I can name about 20 guys that played at LSU and had great careers as 3* guys. But we've also has 4* and 5* guys mixed into the team which made a championship caliber team.
Of course the rankings and ratings matter but not so much so that you pass up 3 good talents for 1 guy who may come at the end of the season. Still is nothing like evaluations then finding guys that fit what you already have or need. You can have a 3* that is 5'10 but runs a 4.4 forty play slot along with a 3* 6'5 guy who runs a 4.6 but catches everything and is physical. They do different things but you can use both. The only place I think ratings make a HUGE difference is OL. You want guys that are smart, big, strong, athletic, can PB, or RB. Even the DL you can get away with very good 3* guys but you want the best you can get of course.
QB, OL, and LB to me is most important to have the highly rated guys. Again you want the best guys you can find but you can't always depend on that 5* to work out or commit so you need to find who really wants to play for you and fits your team best. GT

It varies for me but typically top 50 players. With that said, I felt like Devin White was the best LB prospect that LSU had landed since Bradie James but he was ranked around 140 because they thought he wanted to play RB.
