He’s not the highest we’ve “recruited” but would be probably the highest we’ve gotten in 20 years, if he was to commit. Tommy Harris was a big time recruit, but I don’t recall his ranking. It’s also way to early for me to be getting into next years class. I can barely keep up with the 2022 guys!

I don’t do social media, so I’m really behind the 8 ball! When we get a commitment, I simply look at what other schools offered and base my opinion off of that. Heck, we’ll sign some 2022 guys that I’m not expecting and I’m sure some of our verbals will flip. I’m just ready for some football.

Love recruiting but not sure how anyone follows 2023 at this point. It is pretty much meaningless at this point. 90% of these kids are gonna see what product they see on the field this year before making any worthwhile committment. A total waste of time if you ask me.

I understand some of the 2023 excitement for Sooner fans that really follow recruiting. Riley has a pattern of taking a QB every other year. Rattler, Williams and now Nelson. These highly regarded QB’s are usually able to bring a few other recruits with them. With Rattler, it was Haywood, bridges and theo wease. When Nelson verbaled, he said we would get Webb, Lemon and innis. But, we’re still a year and a half from signing day. I’m still optimistic on some 2022 defensive targets.

I wouldn't go by what other schools may have offered. It is not unusual for top schools to put out 200-300 offers in a year. Not all offers are commitable. The best gauge is their ranking with a recruiting service.
The rankings are not perfect, but they typically aren't far off.

Oklahoma is and has recruited very well over the years.
I suspect joining the SEC will only enhance that. Of course that comes at a cost, as playign in the SEC also makes schedules tougher and making the playoffs more difficult.

When did he commit to OU?

He didn't. That's just a shot-in-the-dark CB because his dad played at OU. He just released his top 12 this week.

Agreed on the recruiting services and it’s nuts how many offers these programs out out. We are in a bind on the 2022 WR class as we’ve had two good ones decommit and evidently we had already told a few other good prospects that we were full. I’m hoping to see a bump once we have a concrete SEC timeline. Defensive commits has been better the last two cycles, which has been pretty bad for a decade.

It seems funny. We as fans get upset when a kid says he is committed to a school then talks to other schools and take visits and then decommits. We talk about how the kid doesn't understand what "commit" means.

On the other hand, schools hand out offers for a scholarship like they are candy, but then say "You have an offer to play football for us, but we aren't going to let you make a commitment yet. Let's see if a higher prospect comes along!" Apparently schools don't understand what "offering a scholarship" means.

Is it really an offer if a kid can't accept it and be committed?

Lol! It sounds like you and I would run a program that was very ethical, but wouldn’t when much. I’ll be over here figuring out how we’re going to get through the year with two scholarship running backs!

Yeah. I always thought I would like to coach. The x's and o's of it I would really like. The politics and other stuff? Not so much. I also don't have patience for kids that want to act like 6 year olds.

Maybe coaching would not be a good fit for me after all.

Brother, I played college ball, not at the D1 level, got my degree in education and did my semester of student teaching. Smart arse kids weren’t for me. Found my way into the oil and gas industry and have been here ever since!

I'm with you on that.

I get most of my information on these type message boards, so we look to be very similar in that respect.

And I agree. It's hard for me to keep up with them all in the 2022 class much less tracking 2023 kids. I look at the 2023 kids a bit, but it's so far out I have no interest getting invested in kids that will decommit and recommit several times in between now and signing day 2023.
