After an official visit this weekend, Louisville took their status from favorite to commitment, as the 6-foot-7 power forward gave Louisville a pledge late Sunday night once he returned home from his visit.
"Montrezl is going to be a Louisville Cardinal," A.W. Hamilton told Scout.com.
Harrell, who originally signed with Virginia Tech, also strongly considered Florida, Alabama and Cincinnati the second time around, but Louisville was the only school that received a visit.
Current Louisville assistant coach Kevin Keatts helped recruit Harrell to Hargrave before taking the job at Louisville. That relationship was a major factor in his recruitment.
"He's going to play for a Hall of Fame coach and have a chance to win a national championship and at the same time be with coach Keatts, who he has a great relationship with," Hamilton added.
Harrell is Louisville's second verbal pledge in the 2012 recruiting class. He joins top 100 recruit Terry Rozier, of Shaker Heights (Ohio) High.
"He came in here extremely motivated," Hamilton said of his senior season. "He has a unbelievable passion for the game. He continued to get better and better throughout the year. He had a spectacular season."
After a strong senior season at Hargrave, where he averaged just over 25 points and nearly 14 rebounds, Harrell finished No. 72 overall in the 2012 rankings. He's regarded as the 14th best power forward in the class.

I guess we can go ahead and start a 2013 thread. Who wants to do it?

Strongly disagree

Engstrom's only played the game for about 3-4 years. Gueye was #1 in juco rankings. In Grant, I trust.

Gueye has potential. Engstrom's ceiling is role player. He just doesn't have good hands, and no amount of coaching can help him with that.

He should practice catching tennis balls and bricks like Julio and Jerry Rice.

i disagree. i think by the time he is a senior, he could be a starter. i think he has really good athleticism and quickness for his size. he's definitely gotta work on his ball handling and he probably will never be much of a scoring threat. but already he has shown the ability to alter shots. teams have to account for his size on the floor. i think its up to the coaches to teach him the proper techniques. he seems to be a good kid and a hard worker, so i'm holding out hope that the light will come on for him.

Engstrom just has to learn the game and how to move. He is getting better though from what I saw last year. He needs to think less.

I just want them to defend the post and rebound. I would be fine with being more perimeter oriented anyway, with Jacobs being the guy we go to for post scoring.
I don't care about Harrell really. Would have liked to have gotten him, but didn't think we ever were going to, and would have only melted down if we had missed on Pollard.
I think if we start a new thread the OP should be better than mine was in this thread. Like a list of people we've offered, etc. I'm not sure I know everybody though.

That would pretty much make him a role player.
He seems like a smart kid, and he picked up a lot over the last offseason. If he makes that kind of improvement again this offseason we will get some quality minutes out of him next season. The hands issue is going to prevent him from ever being good for much more than put backs, but if he becomes a decent shot blocker and post defender he will be a valuable asset.

Yea if he can just play defense he will be good.

Not sure I'd say Engstrom has really good athleticism. Not at all. I do like him however, and what always seems to be overlooked is that he is a superb (and our best) post defender. Hes disciplined and doesn't always go for the block (which isn't always a bad thing). He uses his body well on defense and his pure size down low alters shots and alters offenses. Only problem is his offense is pretty much limited to setting screens. Anybody know a place where we could look at the +/- for college players? I think Engstroms would probably shock y'all.
