He would provide good practice depth and maybe a minute or two in a game, but at 6'4 with a post player skillset, I don't think he could be that effective.

I really like the idea of him playing basketball. I just assumed it was not an option per Saban. Basically a no lose situation since he doesn't count against the b-babll schollies.

I like the mentality of basketball players that play football. A very physical 6'4 post player would be a fine addition to this team. If he knows how to use his body, rebounding and defense should be a breeze.

Walter Pitts is the last Bama b-ball player I can remember that was a football player, although the FB aspect never materialized. He was an absolute great defender on the perimeter but physical enough to guard 3 and some 4's. Gave Big Dog fits in tourney game, when Robinson was a great player.

Thats the thing about it. If this kid was 6'8 he would be a 5 star player. He is a basketball player for real. He knows how to use his body and just knows the game.

Grant has forged a strong relationship with the ESPNU Super 60 star. He has been to a number of Pollard's games, both in AAU and in high school, and he plans to be in attendance for Pollard's final game on Thursday. When asked why he liked Alabama, Pollard responded with one word. Grant. "He's a good man," Pollard said. "I like their style of play, the way they get up and down the court. I like the way that he pushes his boys during practice. If it's JaMychal Green, Trevor Releford, or if it was Tony Mitchell, it doesn't matter. He's going to push them and get the best out of them. If they don't want to give him their best, he's not going to sit here and beg you, because he's got a job to do, and he's going to do the job. "I like that about him, because I don't want to go anywhere where I know that I could do whatever I want to do and do whatever I don't want to do and (the coach) be OK with it. I want to go somewhere where it's going to be hard and where I'm going to have to work."

quote:

"That's something I respect, because even if you do need those guys, if you let them get away with it the first time, they probably think that they can come back and do it again. Now, I don't believe anybody else will do anything that bad."

30 seconds in and I'm struggling to get through this. Greg and Devonta should not host their own weekly talk show.

Interviewing kids is just awkward. That's why I'm glad he did a story too.

Bamamag did an update with Devon Walker today. He seems like a really impressive kid. It should also help Alabama that his coach is Grant's cousin

quote:

“He plays with a chip on his shoulder because he is trying to prove everybody wrong,” said Woodside, a cousin to Tide Head Coach Anthony Grant. Alabama’s interest piqued after his junior year. A scholarship offer by Bama was extended before school began in the fall. He officially visited The Capstone in mid February. Walker was introduced to Alabama on a trip to Tuscaloosa with Coach Woodside and the team after Grant was hired in 2009. Local suitor Central Florida has offered and he officially visited in the fall. The future Big East Conference Orlando based school remains a serious candidate for his signature. Clemson and Kansas State

quote:

Walker has a temperament coaches cherish. “His paents did an excellent job; he is a well-mannered kid,” Woodside said. “Never talks back to me ever. A great kid. Walker has a 4.1 GPA and has been cleared academically by the NCAA Eligibility Center

Hhmmmmm interesting, would love to add Walker seems like a great swing type forward more than a SG, very athletic gets a lot of put backs and alley oops because of it an above average dunker anyway, but the biggest plus I saw was that he seemed to already be well versed in CAG's defensive style

Here is a good highlight vid I found - LINK

What is the word Bryant are we the leaders right now or do you know?

Addint him and Pollard would make our great defense even better. Both long and super athletic. Man that would be two huge pickups.

I really don't know. We seem to be the most interested at the moment.

Just spoke to someone and they told me that Georgetown maybe a legit threat for Pollard. Told me that him visiting them or not will show how serious he is about them.
