Does Auburn have their own university system though?

A&M has 11 in their system, Texas has 16.

Good question - I only know of AUM, Auburn University in Monkeytown (Montgomery)

Yes sir, I realize that such section of the Texas Constitution was not really applicable today. That's why I stipulated that A&M was "founded as a branch of The University of Texas."

The proof is in the fact, as you state, that the two institutions have separate boards of regents.

quote:

Governor Sul Ross voided the section you quoted while he was governor.

How can a governor unilaterally void a section of the state constitution? That sounds really far out there, even for aggie standards.

Could you provide me a link to this ... assumption?

quote:

As the story goes, a legistator proposed that the A&M Campus be made a permanent part of the other school. Ross said no, so the legislator threatened to make it a mental hospital. Sul Ross then knocked him out with one punch and the argument ended there.

I have read that it was because A&M's campus was in such poor shape and was losing students that it was to be shut down completely and not assimilated... but hey, your version would make for a better movie, no?

Considering it happened well over 100 years ago, I don't think you'll find anyone with first-hand knowledge. Records were probably destroyed in the fire that took down most of campus in the 20's.

Then calling them AU is correct. The name of the school in Austin is The University of Texas at Austin, whether Aggies like it or not. TU is not correct and t.u. is gay.

I just call them UTa, since that it what they used to be called.

Add A'Shawn Robinson.. that is 3 of the top 10 or so players in the state in a year that Texas si going to take less than 20..

I think the demise of Texas recruiting is kinda overrepresented..

Would not be surprised to see RSJ and Swoopes fall in the next week or so to Texas as well..

I think someone said it earlier. The schools that will suffer the most from A&M's move to the SEC are Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and TCU.

It's like Pepsi. You only have to take 1-2% of Coke's market share to really make a difference. You'll never take 20-30%.

There's Swoopes...

RSJ might happen this afternoon or this weekend..

Yep.. Texas is really hurt by the A&M move tot he SEC..

I, like many other posters have said, this really hurts OKST and OU more than anything.. Well that and TCU

I actually thought TCU would gain from their jump too. After this past week maybe not so much though. The majority of A&M fans know it will hurt OU and Ok State the most, it's not surprising y'all are still picking up commits. The only thing that can really change Texas recruiting is a prolonged period of seasons like the last 2 for UT

The A&M thing is jsut petty inferiority complex. They have a great school, good football history and after the whole Big 12 divorce, they look a lot better in most peoples eyes. Time for them to get over the whole litter borther syndrome regarding UT.

You're a tiger fan. You wouldn't understand what a rivalry is

And UTa used to refer to themselves at simply "The University". It was a knock on TAMC for being a college and not a university. So we mockingly call them tu because of that.

But over time it has also been said it's because they aren't THE University of Texas, they are just another Texas university

Yes, AU has 2 (Auburn and Montgomery), UA has 3 (Tuscaloosa, Bham, abd Hville) although UAB has been trying to break away for awhile

Thank you. Sumlin obviously put an emphasis on recruiting when making his staff.

We can argue over a lot (Horns and Ags) but let's agree that A&M taking the kids OU used to get is a great thing for us both

A&M is still cleaning up. We also have three commits, all in the trenches, who were slated for the Texas Jr day on the 25th.

They've all since cancelled.

Further, there's no question that Stewart, Gibson, and Griffin are all "Texas good."

RSJ is set to announce on wed. at 1:30... Will be shocked if he picks anywhere else but Texas at this point.

Almost seems like Texas has scripted when these kids are going to commit to keep pushing momentum for their 2nd JR day...

Kinda seems like it since we've had 4 commits in the past 4 days and I wouldn't be surprised if Samples committed before Wednesday as well. I love picking up Kyle Hicks yesterday. Guy is gonna be a stud
