It was a convo on whether or not UGA develops TEs, but y'all turned it into a convo on the merits of Washington as a player

No one should dispute that. He will play a decade in the league if he wants to. I think he would have played a decade in the league no matter where he went to school though.

I could see Darnell Washington developing into an all-pro offensive tackle. Not unlike Jason Peters.

He wasn't a blocker in high school.

Now, his favorite part of his game is blocking. His words.

It is easy to throw out physical traits and say that he would play regardless. But he is 180 degrees a different player out of UGA versus the player who entered.
That ties to the development debate about UGA and our tight ends.

Well, that's not entirely true. You and an Auburn poster highlighted Washington and Georgia posters responded to those.

Until then several other TE's were being discussed:
1. Bowers really didn’t have any hype.
2. Darnell Washington
3. Fitzpatrick, McKitty, Woerner, and Nauta were UGA TEs drafted the last 4 years

Then you pointed out that Washington was more of a monster on his own (which is a legitimate statement/point) and then the Auburn poster said:
Darnell is going off of measurables, not because he was a go to playmaker. Which again is legit, but y'all steered it in that direction. When we responded to those two (legitimate) points Tide Saint jumped in with:
He had 45 catches and 3 TDs in 3 years. That's not a lot of tape, either.

Again...no problem with any of y'alls comments/criticisms, but the conversation was not steered by us. It was steered by two Alabama posters and an Auburn poster.

Just because we respond to what y'all say doesn't mean WE are getting it off topic.

Probably. But, I think our point is that we have sent 5 TE's to the NFL in the last 4 years and Bowers will probably be, too. It's hard to make the claim that:

They have had success with Bowers to date lol. They’ve landed a ton of highly rated TEs only Bowers has lived up to the hype. in the face of facts that were provided.

"y'all" wasn't referring to UGA fans specifically.

Sure, and it also depends on if you value NFL success or not. Washington and Bowers should both be good to great NFL players, the others...... not so much.

IMO if you're getting them to the league and they aren't flaming out because they are woefully unprepared either physically or mentally in terms of understanding of the game, you've done about all you can do. But I'm also of the opinion that colleges don't really develop guys that much in general anyway, and its more about scouting and recruiting than anything else. These "recruiting bumps" people complain about some teams getting are just the paysites letting coaching staffs do their job for them.

Ah! My bad. And, again, I was not criticizing what was said as I felt they were legitimate points.

I agree. But most were 3* TE's at best, too.....with the exception of Nauta who was a 5*, so he was a bit of a failure in development. But the others mentioned was pretty darn good just to make it to the NFL, imo. Personally, I was surprised the others were drafted at all.

For me we will know how well we develop with Delp, Landen Thomas, Pierce Spurlin, Lawson Luckie, etc.

They all have the tools, but there have been plenty of players with tools that don't make it. I mean, which kid coming out of High School could play in the NFL? Even highly talented ones have to be developed into NFL players, or they remain the same and flounder. That's just the way I look at it.

Again. No problem with your points.

Darnell is getting drafted that high due to being an ABSOLUTE CHEAT CODE. Any team that want to revolve their game plan around the Run need to take heed

No you are just use to watching a team full of bums. Hard to put up huge numbers when you spread the ball around. Darnell has definitely shown playmaker ability.
