I doubt that.

Alabama wanted him. Were they going to pay that much? Also doubtful, but they didn't tell him to kick rocks.

I could see UA telling him to look elsewhere once the price got so high. According to reports out there the last few weeks before he committed Oregon started trending and it seems it was all about the money.

Not sure why the downvotes. I was agreeing with the poster above me. UA wanted the kid and tried to stay in it until his announcement, but it was clear near the end Oregon upped the offer and UA was not matching it.

Again, Alabama wanted Jones, but we got outbid. You win some you lose some.

If he was wanting more than we were wanting to offer is that not basically telling him or implying look elsewhere? That does not mean we did not want him.

Again, doubtful, and that’s not how that works

“This is what we can and will do price wise, this is what else we have to sell you on, and we hope you choose us on your commitment day.”

This is likely what Alabama said. They will also likely continue to recruit him just like they should.

Of course we will continue to recruit him but if Oregon was offering more than we were willing to pay not much else to do except wish him luck and hope that he might reconsider.

In the end where someone commits to now will be different depending on how teams finish the season.

Choosing NIKE money, apparently.

Thems the rules. It's not right or wrong, but most fans will be happy to see these Barrett-Jackson Auctions go away. Good riddance.
