Rebels247 has learned that Lafayette (Miss.) High School quarterback Jeremy Liggins intends to publicly announce he will play his college football at LSU later today. Liggins told Rebels247 staff member Terrence Metcalf via telephone this morning that he will announce his intention to play for the Tigers tonight during a scheduled press event on the square in Oxford. Liggins, who a week ago told Rebels247 that LSU was “out of the picture,” continued to be pursued by head coach Les Miles and the Tigers staff through last week. Liggins told Rebels247 that Miles was the predominant reason for his decision for LSU. As of the telephone conversation which took place this morning, Liggins still intended to announce his decision publicly at a restaurant tonight on the square in Oxford. The announcement will be carried live by the Reb Sports Radio Network. “He said he felt that LSU gave him the opportunity to win SEC championships and a national title,” Metcalf said. The 6-3, 270-pound Liggins is a 4-star prospect. He is rated as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Mississippi for 2012 by 247Sports and the No. 93 overall prospect in the nation.

Doesn't seem like the prudent/mature move if he really is going to choose LSU.

He will never play a down at QB for LSU, just ask Russell Sheppard.

ETA:go look at the :LSU recruiting board, they don't give a rats arse if they get liggins or not. However, it is the kids decision to make and if he wants to go to LSU you can't blame him.

If i were a offensive skill positions player outside of rb there is no way in hell i would sign w/ lsu. As a lsu fan i have always been a miles supporter (as a head coach/personality) but based on what i have heard from players i have talked to his relationship w/ his players isn't as great as it is thought to be. I find this shocking due to that being one of his selling points as a coach

Not at all, but it just doesn't seem like the right way to do it to announce it at an event on the square in Oxford. Not a big deal either way, but if I had his ear, I would discourage that move.

this has to be one of the bigger waste of talents i have seen at lsu. Dude could be a game changer if given the opportunity

If he gets his weight under control he is a similar build and talent to Rohan Davey.

The radio show is having the event for all of the area players. They are giving all the area players an opportunity to announce on the air and have their "moment." I don't see anything wrong with that. The only wrong thing I see is a player, who is already a project qb, is deciding to go to LSU. He needs to go to State or Ole Miss if he wants to be a qb. He fits those offenses well. At the same time, this is probably the best move for him if he wants to get paid playing football, because he is gonna be one hell of a DL.

Didn't realize it was for all area players. In that case, no big deal at all. If I were him, I would pick Ole Miss so I could play.

I still doubt that he goes to LSU, and I doubt he plays QB for any school unless he wants to shed at least 20 or 30 pounds. But if he wants to play in championship games, there's no question that he has to leave the state of Mississippi. LSU would be a great choice.

This.

Would love to get him but this is why we needed Bo Wallace so badly.

He'll play QB at LSU if he gets his weight under control. He is very talented. Russell Shepard never played QB because his arm strength and accuracy are atrocious. They gave him a couple weeks worth of reps at QB and he kept throwing the ball into the dirt.

This kid has a cannon from what I've seen and read and he has the chance to be the only QB in this class at LSU.

Make no mistake LSU fans want him to come to LSU, you just have the damn chicken littles that always have pee in their cornflakes and post the same crap 20 times in a thread.

Big arm, big kid, good talent. Welcome to the family if he chooses LSU.

Why?

LSU has beaten MSU what......12 straight? Last thing MSU needs is for LSU to start beating them with their own players.

FWIW I think this kid would be PERFECT for Mullen's offense. Sucks that Mullen's offense is in Starkville Mississippi

Freeze runs a very similar offense.

Hmmm I did not know that. Well in that case it sucks that Ole Miss has a bunch of QB's and couldn't win an SEC game last year and has no talent.
