I just do not see Saban offering a scholarship to Rodney to get Ish. I remember K Allen's family tried that and he ended up at Cal. I do not care how good Ish is but he is not worth 2 scholarships.
While I agree, Saban has done it before at Alabama when the brother was a lower rated recruit.

I know Saban offered Lanard Fournette when Leonard was in the 9th grade but Leonard was a special talent and a kid worth taking up 2 scholarships and those were in the days where teams could move those numbers around some.
I would be surprised if he gave Rodney one considering the y’all are in on so many monster recruits like Trey Sanders, Marcus Banks, Kayvon Thibodeax, Darnell Wright, Nakobe Dean, Clay Webb, Evan Neal, Henry To’ot’o and Faatui Tuitele.
I know for sure that Bama turned away Christian Harris who’s a top 150 recruit. I just don’t see Bama wasting a scholarship on Rodney, especially with Ishmaels work ethic red flags.
Saban has amazed me before with his recruiting and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does it again but I really think this is a Nkemdiche / Kennan Allen situation where the father wants a scholarship for both boys.
Again, If Ishmael is off the table LSU will drop Rodney’s offer or “process” him and free up a spot.

Maybe y’all process someone like Dalcourt or Cheney to make room.

No.
We are taking three DTs in this class: Ishmael Sopsher, DJ Dale and Siaki Ika.

No not at all, I was just saying Saban is not above doing it as he has in the past. I don't not think they offer Rodney as #s are tight.
LSU would not either if they were in same situation.

Our numbers aren't tight.
We are signing 28-29 players in this class.

Then appearly the Bama poster posted misinformation in another thread when they said they were only a few spots left and numbers in general were tight. I took it as face value.

Damn. I thought they were tight, too, but TideSaint is right. They signed 22 guys last year so they can take 28 minus any transfers they took (probably zero).
It's not 29, TS, because Jordan Davis counts even though he ended up at Juco. This is one of the new rules that went into effect last year. Everyone who signs an LOI counts against your 25 even if they don't qualify.

I was arguing with you yesterday that Alabama definitely wouldn't offer Rodney a scholarship, but seeing now that they can take up to 28, I'm going to have to soften my stance on that a bit.

I'll let TidalSurge respond to this. He has more experience with this than I do.

No need if this is correct and Davis actually signed an LOI, which 247 says he did on December 20.
quote:
However, there is a new rule in place where you can’t get a spot from a non-qualifier back. Say a prospect signs on Dec. 20, the date of the Early Signing Period, but fails to meet the academic requirements later to get into school. That young man still counts towards the 25. In the past a school would get that counter back and could just go add a JUCO prospect in June, elevate a greyshirt or even take a high school senior that is still out there unsigned. If that prospect fails to qualify under the new rule, the school doesn’t get that spot back.
This is pretty much the most correct article I've read regarding the "new" rules. LINK

We aren't offering Rodney a scholarship regardless of our class size. You were right.

Can you please let my wife know this?

I think Bama can take 28, maybe even 29 (and I'm taking Jordan Davis' used signing limit spot into account). Here's how. Even so, I don't think Bama will offer a football scholarship to Rodney Jr. (or need to do it) to get Ismael. Imo, Coach O should focus his efforts on other DL targets.
ETA: I'm not sure if Jordan Davis actually signed an NLI and I'm also not sure if QB Lane Hatcher (late addition to 2018-class) is actually on a football scholarship. If not, Bama would have 1 or 2 more spots available. In other words, Bama might even be able to take 30-31 in this cycle.

Getting to ride shotgun in his brother's Charger is better than getting a chance to play in 2 or 3 years.

Gotcha. I assumed your 2017 class was filled completely, not allowing you to count any members of your 2018 class toward the 2017 total.
Man, I still can't freaking believe Saban convinced Jarez Parks to grayshirt. Dude's a freaking wizard.
Regardless, I want to believe your number is 28, so that's what I'm going to go with. Best of luck with Rodney and his little brother.

We are tight based on who is left on the board and the spots we can actually fill. The problem is we currently are sitting at 21 leaving roughly 7 spots left. We are still going hard after guys maybe 12 or 14 that would be takes in this class and we still have a legit shot at. No way we give a spot to Rodney as we are trying to find spots for other 4 & 5 stars.

Do people actually believe Saban is gona offer (waste) a scholly on the kid’s brother for his signature?
Surely we are not that dense...

I don't know anyone who believes that.
