FWIW, the guy on The Bunker who called basically everything in the Reuben Foster recruitment just said it's a matter of "when" not "if" in regards to Matthews flipping.

Regardless of if Bates did improve statistically last year -- I didn't really notice a big improvement in his tackling last year -- you can't have LBs like that and expect to field a good defense. Bates is 5'10 (maybe 5'11?) and 200 lbs. He was moved to LB as a sophomore out of necessity, and now he's turned into our "best" LB and one of our "top" defensive players. That's a problem. His LB play was horrendous in 2010, and if it was better last year, it was a marginal improvement. I'm glad we're finally recruiting -- and landing -- elite LBS now because, while Chizik and Co. have been recruiting very well as a whole since they arrived, the LB recruiting has been very sub-par. I also think coaching has had something to do with our poor LB play, but having marginal talent from the start is a lot to overcome in the SEC.
Don't wanna bash Bates because he's not the one that decided he'd play LB, and from what I can tell, he gives it everything he's got. But I'll be glad when we don't have a 5'10, 200-lb OLB trying to stop the running games of 'Bama, LSU and UGA. Getting the likes of Cass, Trey Johnson and Reuben Foster is a breath of fresh air.
(Yes, I realize Kris Frost is a LB, but he was an athlete when we recruited him. We weren't sure if he'd play LB or WR at the time).

You're being ridiculous. You either didn't watch him closely or don't understand football.

From one of the national Scout analysts:
quote:
Jeremy Johnson was the best player on any field, and it wasn’t close. The Auburn QB commit had a certain sense of calm no matter the situation as he led Montgomery (Ala.) Carver to an undefeated Thursday. Whether short, intermediate or over the top, Johnson picked defenses apart with his unmatched accuracy.

Let's not forget that 2 talented LBs that we signed in 2010 aren't playing that position anymore.
Owens & White would have greatly improved our LB corp if they were still there.

I have a lot of optimism for Chris Landrum still. He's in line to be Holland's backup and so far Holland has been injury prone. I hope he doesn't get injured, but odds are that Landrum will see meaningful playing time when Holland nurses a minor injury from time to time. That is, unless, Cass comes in to fall practices ready to tear shite up

If you guys miss on Tray, do you put full court pressure on Leonard? He is a beast.

No, Leonard is pretty far down our list according to our 247 mod
